4. Bills are amended before they are voted on.
I know that doesn't fit your constant pessimism meme, but it's just the way things work.

3. Oh really?
Oh really Bill? You mean the bill that has been approved by your campaign contributers?
Where have you been and what are you fighting for? We will get the bones, and the insurance companies will get the meat.
Unacceptable. Closing the donut hole in Part D is not enough. WTF has happened to public option or single payer?
We the people deserve better. Can't wait to see the final bill you will consider voting for. Hope it's not crap.

11. Wrong. A good bill requires 60 votes. Reconciliation would strip out huge provisions of the bill.
Any public option that could pass the House would get zapped out of reconciliation in the Senate due to procedural rules. So would insurance regulations (pre-existing conditions, etc.) One of the only things that could survive would be subsidies for private health insurance and taxes to pay for them.

12. how was it that the GOP could whip through every fascist piece of shit bill when they were in
charge?

I can't believe the Democrats are such cowards that they need the cover of republicans voting with them.

13. Don't even acknowledge BzaDem. It doesn't know what the hell it is talking about.
As many sources have already indicated, there a ways to go about reconciliation that could result in significant reform passing. :hi:

15. They had to make their signature initiative (1.6 trillion dollar tax cuts) expire after 10 years
Edited on Wed Sep-16-09 04:23 AM by BzaDem
in order to get through the procedural hurdles of reconciliation. And they are going to expire.

Due to rules that Democrats changed years ago, we would have to have a negotiated-rates public option expire after 5 years. Right now, no public option proposed starts earlier than 4 years from now. That means it would live for 1 year.

If we could get 60 votes, none of this would matter.

17. Would they use reconciliation to change the rules?
Or do you think we could get 60 votes to do that? Besides, it sounds like a really bad idea to me. When crazy folks like * get into office again, it would be a disaster.
