Five stages of death, for Republicans.
Denial: The Republicans had Rassmussen, to tell them that Palin McCain would handily win the election. Even in the most obvious situation, they refused to admit, that they were going extinct. Even after the election, they came and still come up with reasons why he is illegitimate, and will soon be removed, and all traces of his admin. When recently, it became evident that he MIGHT not be going anywhere soon, they cranked up the confusion, and anarchy, to refuse to acknowledge even his physical presence. Giving him NO respect, to make him a nonperson.

Anger: We are now smack dab in the middle of the anger phase. This a an amorphous, ethereal anger. One not addressed by facts. When you address one issue, it is pointed out, that you cannot address just one issue. You must address it all as a whole. A protest of all things Dem. Apparently, they feel they can hold death at bay, just by hating it. And the classic symptom is that they are not angry at their life habits, that lead to this crisis. They are angry at the official process, that lead to their predicament. They will now increasingly hate the process of democracy.

Bargaining: As the hate increases, in a crescendo, so too is the extinguishment the rest of us feel. We will incresingly simply ignore the noise. That will lead to the bargaining phase. There are hints at this, when the right says "I thought you were the guys that talked up bipartisanship. We were ALWAYS for health care reform." Some will pray to God, some will accept certain fascist trends, to stave off the Obama wave. Either way, all markers will be called in.

Depression: This will largely be expressed in heaping ashes on heads, and renting your cloak. Evil is upon us. Our political system is no longer capable of existing. Many will wish it all away. Most will lament the American people allowing us to fail. Us all failing, being a somewhat private affair for Republicans.

Acceptance: Should we survive, without the anger phase erupting into the right murdering all their opposition, or trying, it will lead to the acceptance phase. While this usually results in a person giving up, when the Republicans give up, they do so by taking the credit for the thing they hated and opposed. Witness the civil rights laws. Now, the republicans take credit for that. The historical revision that presently is all in vogue on the right, will ramp up. They will try to make the lines of any distinction blurred. So, my advice, is to ignore the right, so that they cannot in time try to steal the glory of progress.

The thing that should be clear in this is, we have a ways to go. If we wither now, they win. This frame, will be useful when arguing about Republican marginalization. And their future. While they frame this as the beginning of large things, we can counter it with the process just playing itself out, predictably. The end certain.
