Most idiotic statement by Ben Bernanke EVER...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090915/ap_on_bi_ge/us_bernanke

By JEANNINE AVERSA, AP Economics Writer Jeannine Aversa, Ap Economics Writer – 33 mins ago
WASHINGTON – Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said Tuesday that the worst recession since the 1930s is probably over.

Bernanke said the economy likely is growing now, but it won't be sufficient to prevent the unemployment rate, now at a 26-year high of 9.7 percent, from rising.

"The recession is very likely over at this point," Bernanke said in responding to questions at the Brookings Institution.

The Fed boss also said he is confident that Congress will enact a revamp of the nation's financial rule book to prevent a future crisis from happening.

My word...what drugs has this guy been doing???

2. Well, I think that by "recession is over" he means that we'll see economic growth this quarter.
And that could actually be the case. But that doesn't mean that businesses will stop shedding jobs, or that anyone will be suffering less. Just that we will be producing and consuming more widgets than we have in the previous quarter.

4. I know my financial picture is looking a lot better than it was
at this time last year. I see people in my family who were laid off getting jobs - not great ones - but something to pay the bills until something better comes along. So, yes, I do see improvement and hope it continues!

5. Fed bosses don't think like human beings

Recall that in more prosperous times, the fed would raise interest rates when the unemployment rate was, in their minds, too LOW.

It's all about keeping big business profitable, not what is best for the country as a whole.

8. Why is this idiotic? The economy is starting to grow again...
job losses are slowing, and things are getting better.

Do you know something he doesn't, or is this just not good enough for you?

9. do you understand the actual definition of "recession"...?
it is definitely possible for the recession to be over, and yet see unemployment continue to rise.
