Bill Clinton to join Newsom on campaign trail

We've been teasing Mayor Gavin Newsom about his latest gubernatorial endorsements - like the supervisors who he appointed to the Board of Supervisors and the firefighters who scored a major raise from him. What's next, we wondered - a press release touting his wife's endorsement?

But we'll admit, this one got our attention. Newsom has scored a major coup indeed. Former President Bill Clinton will join Newsom at two events in Los Angeles Oct. 5. Not many details are being divulged, but we know one of the events is a campaign fundraiser for the mayor.

"President Clinton's record of achievement as president and as a senior statesman is inspiring to all Democrats," Newsom said in a statement. "I am truly honored that he will join me in October."
