drawing a blank - RW preacher from the FDR era?
Inspired by Guitar Man, I'm trying to compose a LTTE and am drawing a blank on the name of that RW preacher from the 30s or 40s that had quite a following. I keep thinking Father Flanagan, but he was a good guy, if I recall.

It's on the tip of my tongue, but my google-fu is pathetic today.

If somebody could give me his name?

Thanks

More populist than RW, though.

ETA: I mean scary populist like Pat Buchanan.

8. Father Coughlin was NOT a "good guy".

Rightwing, racist, antisemitic, xenophobic hatemonger who invented the medium for Rush, Sean, Glenn, Joe, Bob (Grant), and other wannabe's. He rationalized Hitler and Mussolini. No wonder Pat Buchanon turned out like he did with influences like FC.

10. Did the OP say that Coughlin was a "good guy"?
I think not- "good guy" was for Father Flanagan.

11. You're correct
I couldn't think of the guy's name, as I only remembered Father Flanagan, who I thought was a good guy... and therefore could not be the RWer whose name I had forgotten.

13. Sorry, I misread and I tend to go off on anyone who remotely defends Fr. Coughlin.
Again, sorry.

15. I can see the comparison. My father's family was Jewish and THEY listened to Coughlin
by their choice, not because of fear but because of the entertainment value.

12. Try not to get the two confused:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Coughlin">Father Charles Edward Coughlin father of hate radio in America.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_J._Flanagan">Father Edward Joseph Flanagan father of Boys Town.
