I think the Wilson Resolution is just a waste of time! With all the |
|
necessary legislation pending, Congress finds the time to censure this jackass, who everyone already "knows" is a jackass? And then allows the GOP to further spread invective defending him? One would have thought they have more important things to do!

6. I agree and considering how they find the most inane things to fight about...i would much rather |
|
it be this case if not they still would not be discussing what they should be because the repubs would ensure it..sad that our government is so easily distracted but in this case...it needs to be done..considering the idiots we are attempting to work with..who are consistent in ensuring nothing gets done that should..

|
Wilson broke those rules.

9. It didn't take that long -- and it's not as though they said "forget about health |
|
care, forget about the economy", they're still fighting the good fight. They can walk and chew gum at the same time. The House is already voting on the next Resolution.

10. A stand had to be taken for decorum and respect. |
|
It's not so much for Obama that this was done, but to retain the dignity and integrity pect that are inherent in the Presidency.
If one asshole is allowed to heckle the President during a major speech to both Houses, what could be next?
You may not like -- or even respect -- the person holding the office, but you do have to give deference to the office itself. That's what this resolution is all about. It only took a fraction of the House's time to do the right thing.

15. And it would have taken virtually no time... |

...for Wilson to do the right thing. It would have taken five minutes to apologize on the floor. The irony is that each of the repugs harped on 'wasting time' on this instead of getting on with dealing with health care reform and the economy -- in a bipartisan manner, no less. As if...

You were naughty Joe! Bad Joe! It makes him a hero to the right wingnuts in his district and pretty much ensures his reelection to Congress in 2010. PUNISH the asshole, strip him of Congessional previleges, demote him to coffee boy at committee sessions, make him sharpen pencils, make him frolic naked with Dick Cheney and Glenn Beck through a field of poison ivy...ANYTHING. This isn't punishment. Yeah it's on his permenant record but that means JACK SHIT.

But, if they really thought it was such a waste of time, why did they use their half hour to debate it AND why did they call the yeas and nays on a vote they knew they would lose? The whole thing could have taken ten minutes.

it was already brought forward. Since they chose to do it, I would like to see some backbone!
But I agree in the sense that the discussion let them set the tone for their side... and they had guns blazing!

Others will think twice before they blurt out their spew. Who wants to go down in history as having been censured by their colleagues for being nothing but rude? This sort of action is taken so people who are supposed to be grown ups act like grown ups in the future. It sets a precedent.

22. Need to know how congress works. |
|
They will take time to pass the national bluebird act, the resolution proclaiming national marble day, honor the brave spelling expert who pulled a blind ferret from a building that might or might not been on fire, and then knock off early for the lobby sponsored cocktail party.
That's what they are going to do with their time. So It's okay with me if they take time to officially declare that Joe Wilson is a jackass. Better than the other things they do to waste time.
