they just released another ACORN tape. this is way too sophisticated
and artfully done to simply be the work of two young people. That said, the tape is enough to make me cringe.

3. Sorry. This is the story about the two young repubs
who posed as a pimp and prostitute to ACORN workers, seeking help in their business of trafficking in underage girls. Some offices booted them, but some didn't. This is the fourth video released. Some employees have been fired and the Senate just voted not to fund ACORN's housing program. It's a big story.

21. I haven't found anything about underage girl trafficking
Everything I read is about how to launder illegally obtained funds. Either way I think ACORN should get the boot. If they were a right wing organization there wouldn't even be a debate about it on DU. It would be "off with their heads".

24. I agree that Acorn employees have engaged in some improprieties.
Edited on Tue Sep-15-09 06:35 PM by Wizard777
But the Acorn employees merely coconspired with O'Keefe and Giles. You simply can't say it's okay to conspire to commit a crime. But it's highly illegal to coconspire with that crime. The conspiracy is either illegal for all parties involved or none of the parties involved. Either way provides and equal protection of law.

They did in maryland. They even sought and obtained immigration advice.

9. Clearly.
This was a hit job on Acorn, getting illegally stung by a ridiculous and implausible con job? It feels like a set up to me. It feels like the repukes bounced around Acorn offices until they ran into one that was employing the right people. Workers that no one can seem to contact now.

41. yes
my point is they keep trickling out new videos, which is remarkably effective at making these apologists look absurd.

check the archives here. i said after the FIRST video, that while it wasn't dispositive, i suggested we were looking at a culture of corruption. that was soon confirmed with each new video.

it's simply a colossal fuck up on ACORN's part.

4. how many times were these people turned down by ACORN staffers?
I mean, really, if this "film crew" was turned down by 100 staffers and they found 2 or 3, then that's a different story.

As opposed to ACORN is full of low life staffers.

7. My thoughts on ACORN.
ACORN's core goals of promoting the minority vote
and helping the poor get affordable housing are
good and noble.

However, I think the organization got too large
and widespread to manage properly.

I do realize that the rightwing is mounting a
vicious and persistent attack on ACORN to bring it
down and tar Obama with the association.

I get that.

But I also think that it's time for ACORN to dismantle.

I think these goals can still be achieved, but that
achievement might work better on a local or regional
level.

It's time for smaller communities to organize for
these goals and manage the process better and more
effectively.

27. That's a given...
...the tragedy is they found people stupid enough, and without any moral bearings, who would go along with their contrived BS, in the process delivering a sucker punch to ACORN. It's hard to see how they recover from this unless it turns out that their employees were paid to say what they said by the same people who backed this operation in the first place.

40. Conservatives loved using the "one bad apple" defense
During the Iran war sex/torture scandals. Even worst case scenario, this is no worse than that was.

Plus, this probably also constitutes entrapment, fraud and many other crimes on the part of the dirty tricksters. But we need the facts to be fully revealed.

26. I wonder how many tapes there are?
First one, then two, then three, then four.

Makes ACORN look very foolish about talking about single instance.

Also by stretching it out it stays in the news cycle longer.

I mean if it is a well funded attack job there is no reason why they couldn't have 6, 10 or even 12 tapes.

Just keep cranking them out periodically to keep the pressure up. Generally in a situation like this you hope the news cycle changes so you get out of the heat. A supply of tapes makes that impossible.

28. This is really making me sick.
This is an obvious smear campaign. They have over 1,000 neighborhood chapters in the U.S. If you hit enough offices you'll find a few idiots who are either willing to give advice to criminals or who recognize that the characters and situations are so over the top that they assume it's some kind of joke and play along.

The idea that ACORN has some kind of national policy of helping criminals is just ridiculous. What could ACORN possibly gain from helping to pimp out underage girls? It makes no sense to anyone who looks at it objectively.
