Public Option and medical reform is so needed. I had issues today
I had pancreatitis a few weeks ago, I have a messed up colon, they thought it was cancer but it is Crohn's disease...

I have a crapload of pills I have to take plus still having major pain in the upper right quadrant of my colon

I see a general physician who is in charge of my general health and prescribes my pain medication

I have a gastro doctor that I see for the colon side of things and is "scared of "big brother" so he insists my gen doc keep filling the pain meds.

Everything has been fine until today. I forgot to refil my pain meds a day early so I called it in about 1 AM and had to stay home from work because of the pain and to wait on the meds...

MY DOC IS ON VACATION until Friday...and his fill in doc didn't want to fill it (this is the same doc that missed the pancreatitis) Said since it was for the colon the gastro doc should fill it...

so called the gastro doc he was in day surgery doing colonoscopys all day called at 2 pm and said no, my doc needs to fill it and if he has someone covering for him, they should go a head and fill it...

SO while two worthless docs are having a pissing match about who needs to fill it, the patient is in SEVERE pain.

Finally at 4:55 the gen doc covering for my doc calls in a prescription....

If we had medical reform, they might actually work together and not cause all this pain!!!

sheesh

2. While I'm sure you have probably already heard several
dietary recommendations, think about a brown rice regimen for a week or so. It's quite good for the colon. All the best to you.

4. Fiber isn't recommended for an acute flareup of Crohn's disease
Brown rice doesn't cure everything.

Foods to avoid are listed at http://www.webmd.com/ibd-crohns-disease/crohns-disease/creating-a-crohns-disease-diet-plan

People with Crohn's disease are already having trouble absorbing nutrients. A deficiency diet is a very, very bad idea.

Good luck, Crohn's disease sucks.

Just be glad you've got a diagnosis. There are treatments for it.

10. Not telling you to ignore your doctor -
but with respect to IBD, they don't know everything.

High fiber, nuts, and coleslaw do bother SOME people with IBD - but not all. Wheat gluten bothers SOME people with IBD, but not all. Fiber IS an issue if you are not in remission - even if it doesn't seem to bother your colon, since absorption is a problem for people with active IBD)

My daughter has been living with UC (the sister of crohns) since she was 3. She's 19 now, and has been in remission for virtually all that time. She lives on fiber, fruits, veggies, nuts, beans - all of the things on many doctor's "evil" list for IBD. What she can't eat is chicken or turkey (which is recommended by some for IBD because it is low-fat and bland). My daughter's doctor says food has no impact at all - for some people he may be right, but I think most people with IBD find some dietary impact.

Keep a food diary - you will find patterns, and will find out what works for you. I wish you well.

5. Unfortunately, the health insurance reform plans
won't do a thing about doctors who have pissing contests and the DEA that has been incapable of stopping illegal drugs so it leans on doctors prescribing the legal ones to patients who need them.

Ending the stupid drug war would do more for that problem than insurance reform will.

14. So sorry you're hurting
hope you can resove it soon.

As far as pain treatment goes, our country needs to stop declaring war on things that are not soverign nations. A drug program focused on treatment of addiction through a medical model would go a long way to prevent the kind of issues you've had ... and it would actually address the real problem.
