Massachusetts Institute of Technology rickrolled
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the leading US science university, has been rickrolled on a grand scale.

Students have plastered the first eight notes of Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up on scaffolding surrounding the Boston research centre's Great Dome.

The pranksters dreamed up the sophisticated stunt after noticing that the horizontal lines of the scaffolding cover resembled unfilled sheet music, according to MIT's student newspaper The Tech.

Rickrolling began as an online trend which involved tricking people into watching YouTube videos of Astley's 1987 hit, but quickly entered the "real" world.

Heh! Love MIT pranks! Cal Poly is good too.

11. Absolutely. I went a long time before learning what Rick Rolled was. My kids only laughed.
Then someone took pity on me and did it. What am I doing wrong? No one wants to Rick Roll me.

8. I don't remember a truck, but I do remember them hoisting up a Campus Police car.
This would have been in the late 80s or early 90s, I guess. I lived outside Boston at the time. Everyone was amazed and wondered how they did it.

12. Oh wow! That was a rickroll?
I saw that on the local news the day it happened and at the time the news anchor said she'd be curious to know if the notes were an actual song, and if so, what song? And it's a rickroll? I love it!

14. These "pranks' are yearly and go back for decades....
They are considered the original "hacks" - which is where the word "hacker" comes from......

They tend to be mind blowing, elegant, funny, almost impossible to conceive and NO ONE can get caught while doing it.
