Peaceful vs Violent revolution. How do we know where the tipping point is? |
|
A JFK quote keeps running through my head today. "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
There are so many who don't want to see the kind of change, reform, fairness and equality this country so desperately needs today to continue to be a first world nation and world leader. From the corpmedia to the rethugs, birthers, baggers, racists, corporatists as well as our "own" blue dogs and spineless hacks, it seems to me that democracy is failing us miserably.
I'm not calling for or advocating violent revolution, just wondering what the thoughts of others might be. Is it ever justified? If so, what are the indicators that it is time?
thanks

1. (shrug) The MLK v Malcom X debate will always exist... |
|
The same debate exists in feminist studies.
If you want to get deep, read The Structure Of Scientific Revolutions - in particular the bit about Priestly/Lavoisier on the discovery/invention of oxygen.
For any of this post to have any meaning to the reader, requires that the reader be possessed of a certain about of abstraction ability.

I'll have to check it out. I think Michael Moore's appearance on Leno last night when he was talking about how the pie is currently being divided got me started. I have worked so long and so hard to have so little for the effort I have put forth that it gets me thinking ugly thoughts sometimes.

2. When all else fails and there is no alternative, what are you left with? A choice between |
|
surrender and using tactics that some may dislike. I know my choice. The acceptance of the population (for the most part) of the legitimacy of the "rethugs, birthers, baggers, racists, corporatists" etc. is one indication that it might be time for a change in tactics. If we wind up with as useless and sold-out version of health care "reform" as I expect we will, the time could be NOW.

maybe the fact that the media spews out anything but the truth daily is an indicator of how far down the rabbit hole we've gone.

8. It usually begins when the oppression becomes unmistakeable. |
|
In other words, when propaganda can no longer hide it enough.

11. A revolution for those that already have or hold power in some way |
|
is short of revolution and is just violence.

And some days I'm thinking we're headed more toward civil war than revolution. The other side has already fired the first shots, taken lives in acts of violence against us. :(
