http://www.politico.com/blogs/joshgerstein/0909/FBI_chief_lags_ABC_anchor_on_ACORN_news.htmlFBI Director Robert Mueller apparently doesn't watch much Fox News.
Mueller said today that he expects his agency and the Justice Department to look into allegations that workers for anti-poverty group ACORN encouraged criminal activitity during a series of undercover video stings carried out by conservative activists. But the FBI chief said he was entirely unaware of the controversy until last night.
"First time I heard of this incident to which you refer is last evening," Mueller said Wednesday in response to questions from Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. "Given what you’ve said, it's something in consultation with the Department of Justice that we'd look at."
Conservatives have argued that the slow response of many in the mainstream media shows they are out of touch. They singled out ABC anchor Charlie Gibson for criticism after he suggested in a radio interview Tuesday morning that he didn't know about the story. An ABC spokesman later said Gibson did know of the story but didn't get the reference by the radio hosts. The story has been the subject of intense attention on the part of Fox News and conservative media outlets.
