7. Yup! In 1993, the GLBT March On Washington.

I had a cool employer back then. When I told her that I was quiting my job for the march she talked me into taking a leave of absence instead. A friend and myself traveled the entire country, from Seattle to the Black Hills to Illinois to Ohio to the Allegheny National Forrest to D.C. to North Carolina and then back home to Seattle.....all in a 1978 Toyota pickup. Only had one problem with the truck... a tire blew. It was a trip of a lifetime and I want to do it again this Spring.

9. 1971 Vietnam War demonstrations.

I was a draftee in the Army at the time (Ft Myer in Arlington) but spent Friday night through Sunday afternoon with the demonstrators. The crowds were in the 200,000 range Saturday and Sunday.

I have been in close to 100 demonstrations here in Minnesota in just the past year alone but have only marched on Washington once so far. I hope to make it back there again soon.

But there were three major differences between those demonstrations and the 9/12 gatherings:


1. The media, if they mentioned us at all, under-inflated our numbers. We were a million and more strong.

And many of us could ill-afford to make the trip. Yet somehow we found a way. We had to be there, that's all.

2. We KNEW what we were protesting against.

And finally,

3. Our cause was a just one. Moreover, history has rendered its verdict:

16. 1983 - MLK, Jr. Anniversary March

Walked from College Park, MD all the way down Rt. 1 and on to the Lincoln Memorial. We met a lot of interesting people along the way and while we were there.
