2. Wow, we've sure lost a lot of well-known people this last week
I watch the "In Memoriam" section of "This Week with George Stephanopoulos", mostly to see the number of dead servicemembers that we keep losing to senseless wars, and I notice that some weeks they really have to look hard to find a famous person who died in the preceding week.

This weekend, they will have many people to mention.

4. Bit by bit,
we boomers are getting old.

Peter, Paul, and Mary punctuated my adolescence and young adulthood. "Leavin' On A Jet Plane" made me cry in the mornings, when I'd have to rise and leave my love to fly back to school. Even though we were to be married shortly, the pain of separation was anguish of a kind that only the young in love can feel - or so I believed. That song haunted me for years, even after we married.

And now Mary is gone.

Damn, this one makes me cry tonight....................................

And spent a long time talking to Paul Prestopino, their accompanist.

8. Sorry... that was Arte Johnson
Henry Gibson did a lot of little poems holding the giant flower...

And of course, the leader of the Illinois Nazis.

15. I was watching the movie "Mother Night"
and as the credits rolled, I noticed that the voice
of Adolph Eichmann was done by Henry Gibson.

7. Time to dust off the turntable.
My vinyl collection includes several Peter, Paul and Mary albums. I've been putting off unpacking that part of the living room that is still in boxes from my recent move. Now I just need to hear those particular voices. And I need to find the box that contains the sheet music; a couple of years ago I was prowling one of our local thrift shops and came across two comb-bound books -- one was the works of Buffy Ste. Marie, the other was the complete songbook for PP&M. I paid 99 cents for each one, and I am rich beyond words for having them.

9. Notice that so many of these deaths
are cancer related. I just mentioned that to my Dr. today and she said, 'we're being poisoned by our food'.

12. All due respect, cigarrettes had to have had an effect, and if you've ever
seen pictures of Los Angeles back in the fifties and sixties... I'd venture a guess that air pollution had a hand in it as well.

13. I've been so sad about Mary since I learned she was sick.
Edited on Wed Sep-16-09 10:07 PM by David Zephyr
We would go to see Peter, Paul and Mary at the Hollywood Bowl or the Greek whenever they came to Los Angeles and then she got sick.

She'd sing "If I Had A Hammer" between the guys and throw that long blonde hair of hers back with in such a way that it delighted my heart. I swear this breaks my heart.

I love you Mary!

Edit to K&R.
