So what are the fundamentalist wackos up to in your neck of the woods? |
|
At Carleton University in Ottawa, Campus for Christ (the Crusade was removed because fundamentalism and the concept of a religious crusade is so ridiculed in Canada that they would not be able to operate peacefully if they kept it) is running some campaign about evolution, "science", and "astronomy" that is making use of a lot of the imagery and stylistic flourishes typically associated with the New Atheist Movement. Campus is full of posters that brings to mind Dawkins or Hitchens while tucking away the organization's logo in a little corner of the page.
Some girl from the group was parading around campus and preaching to people; I suspect the Jack Layton pin I was sporting for the majority of the day led her to not approach me.

Churches are like crack houses, and just about as welcome.
"Do not fucking go there, man, they will fuck you up".
Just the same, there's a lot of them.

3. Not too many fundies in my neck of the woods... |
|
Our wackos tend to be of a more libertarian nature. A young woman was recently arrested for parading around topless carrying a gun. Turns out neither is illegal in my state.

I live in fear of hearing the villagers with their pitchforks outside my bedroom window.

5. If it happens, throw Mardi Gras beads and lift up your shirt. They'll forget why they came. |

8. In Ottawa too there is a fundamentalist group that bought an old nunnery |
|
mansion and the end of the street my brother lives on. They've been there for 5 years or so. I'd love to know where such a start up gets their money to buy a mansion from.
