I'm not sure exactly what you were saying in your OP about Howard Beale - whether he's "innocently" observing that there seems to be that mentality out there or what - but that's exactly the "mad as hell" attitude that he is trying to engineer with his hate talk.

The problem is that his horde of ignoramuses are mad at complete lies and misperceptions, perpetrated by Beck himself. They don't realize or don't care that their idiot protest signs make no sense.

And they don't bother to question it because they WANT to believe the worst about the President.

I knew we were facing thousands of doofuses who never listened in history class (or maybe mom and dad kept them home to prevent them from hearing the earth is older than 6,000 years).

I knew we were facing the Parade of Noisy Ignoramuses.

I have no problem with people disagreeing with me. I have no problem having a civil conversation with folks who honestly believe in small government (who have educated themselves, and still believe in fiscal conservatism). I can respect that.

What I can't respect is people getting all their info from Rush, Glen and Sean, and opening their fat yaps and spewing complete falsehoods at the tops of their lungs (and then expecting respect in return). Sheesh!
