Irony Alert: "Tea Party Protesters Protest D.C. Metro Service" - bwahahaha!!!!
So they want a MORE ROBUST public transportation option!

3 guesses as to what would happen if Obama proposed a more robust public transportation option. And the first 2 don't count.

It's not his policies they hate. It's him.

:rofl:

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/09/16/tea-party-protesters-protest-dc-metro-service/

"Protesters who attended Saturday’s Tea Party rally in Washington found a new reason to be upset: Apparently they are unhappy with the level of service provided by the subway system.

Rep. Kevin Brady called for a government investigation into whether the government-run subway system adequately prepared for this weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.

Seriously.

The Texas Republican on Wednesday released a letter he sent to Washington’s Metro system complaining that the taxpayer-funded subway system was unable to properly transport protesters to the rally to protest government spending and expansion.

“These individuals came all the way from Southeast Texas to protest the excessive spending and growing government intrusion by the 111th Congress and the new Obama administration,” Brady wrote. “These participants, whose tax dollars were used to create and maintain this public transit system, were frustrated and disappointed that our nation’s capital did not make a great effort to simply provide a basic level of transit for them.” "

1. Given the demographics of the D.C., I'll bet they were disappointed with more than the Metro.
Edited on Wed Sep-16-09 11:39 PM by NYC_SKP
I'd love to have been a fly on the wall of their Motel 6's or camper-trucks to hear the conversations once it dawned on them how many people in DC "aren't like them".

:P

2. Heh. I've never been there, but I always assumed that there were really "2 DC's"...
And that people going to the government bldgs part wouldn't ever see the scarybrownpeople part.

Is that the case? Or is it significantly better integrated than I'm thinking?

4. It's true that the mall and surrounding buildings are mostly tourists.
And if you hang around the Rayburn building, for example, you'll run into congress critters.

But members of the service industries are largely made up of the general DC population.

But in getting into the city or just wandering around the burbs you see a kaleidoscope of nationalities and races.

And I doubt any of them were staying in the better hotels near the mall. :P

8. I think is much better integrated than
you are thinking. Also I have always found the metro to be well run with really nice people working there that don't mind helping me who really stupid about subways since we don't even have buses in the boonies here. They were very efficient for the anti-war protest and there were a hell of a lot more people than that pitiful thing they had last weekend.

9. You and I both know
Edited on Wed Sep-16-09 11:51 PM by Tangerine LaBamba
that a number of things happened to those shitwits when they got to DC:

1. They found out there are a lot of "those people" who live here - the majority, in fact;
2. the Metro is a subway;
3. the farecard system requires a functioning brain;
4. using a farecard is very, very difficult - you need to know which way the arrow has to point (down) when you put it in that slot;
5. they didn't understand how turnstiles work;
6. the Metro maps made them cry........................................

13. Did you see the part
about needing a "functioning brain" in order to be able to navigate the system?

Well, you have one.

And, in fact, yes, it's incredibly easy to use.......................

25. Oh, but you can't blame them.
First, they're idiots. Second, out where they come from, driving is a must. There aren't even any public buses for miles and miles around.

12. "shitwits"!! I love it!!
Tangie, you've come up with another fabulous neologism!

I am smart enough to navigate from San Francisco to Berkeley using one of them automated subway fare cards. And I have also gotten around in NYC and Boston on the tube.

Do I win a prize, huh, huh!!???

14. I can't take any credit for it -
got it from another DUer who can't remember who made it up, he's been using it that long. Spread it around, kid.

You, too, have a functioning brain. Which means you don't qualify to be a Teabagger.................. :hi:

They couldn't make it to the event because of "flawed" government provided, public transport?

21. worthless teabaggers...
always want both ways. Texas wants to "opt out" of our fine republic but wants FEMA money to fix their cities. Teabaggers hate government spending but want to use our public mass transportation system and public restrooms and public interstate system and government paid and managed public healthcare system. Hmmm...seems they have serious lack of understanding of the word "public"

is something that helps people who aren't one of THEM.

Seeing who *they* are is as easy as looking at a picture, of course.

26. Private groups that want expanded service usually pay for it out of their pockets
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 09:22 AM by Mike Daniels
Given that Mr. Brady works in Washington I would think he'd be aware of that policy and that he or another organizer would have done their leg work so that they had the required service they needed.

OTOH, I guess it's easier to freeload off a government service and then bitch when it doesn't meet your expectations.

They should just pull up their bootstraps and get themselves around DC.

Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 09:32 AM by Mike Daniels
I went over there just to see if they had created a thread on this and was surprised to not see it posted.

I guess the few over there with functioning brains realized the obvious hypocrisy of being anti-government services and then bitching about how said services didn't meet your expectations.
