Ok folks The Baucus bill is not DONE.
It first has to get out of committee and there is a good chance it won't.

Even if it does it has to go to conference to match this with the OTHER TWO bills under consideration. If it does not the OTHER TWO Senate potential bills have a PO, the Heatth and Education Committee one had Teddy's hand on it, and is quite progressive.

So first call your Senators if they are members of the Finance Committee and URGE THEM to kill it in Committee. If not. call them to tell them to kill it in conference.

Damn I know the Senate is arcane, but this is NOT the ONLY GAME IN TOWN.

ridicule after so much hype.

Rockfeller's long one on one with President today was telling. The President wasn't meeting with Baucus.

6. last week he had a little presser and was almost choking out the words

there is no chess here the guy got into one of these little groups and became detached from reality.

What is so strange is that the finance committee is a big committee and if he hadn't tried the gang of 6 he might have had a chance at a compromise.

Once he made it only 3 Republicans the problem was that the Republicans couldn't bring in any of the other committee members.

Had he slugged it out with the bigger committee he might have succeeded in getting 6-7 Republicans.

It was doomed from the start.

Why this is like watching sausage.

And after they vote on it and the house votes on theirs... another conference

Ain't watching sausage making fun?

10. We have the health and education bill
Kennedy's, this one and another one...

Usually we do not get into this stage because usually we don't have competing bills

15. It is going to get a ton of Amendments before the Committee ever votes.
Rockefeller said he has a ton of them. He wants the Public Option. He wants larger subsidies. He wants the good stuff.

17. I just talked to my Senators
poor staffer, he was surprised when I went in detail on all the crap in there... I mean I opened the PDF of the actual bill as it stands right now.

They hate it when we the people know the details better.

14. Maybe not
Still, I wish we'd just forget that damn bill and focus on reconciling HELP and the HR3200.
