2. If I Had A Hammer was the first song I remember them singing and I was 10 when it

came out, and I couldn't stop singing it! I later learned that Pete Seeger wrote it. In retrospect, PP&M were brave to record Seeger songs because he had been blacklisted.

Mary's death is hitting me hard but then since my Mom died, every new loss in our cultural history has been hitting me hard.

3. Same here, Ommm. Since my folks went, each new passing is a reminder...

of our own mortality. I mourn the loss of these wonderful beacons who taught us, entertained us and, I feel, loved us.

6. I still love that song

I know what you're going through since your mom's death, although since dad died first, that one hurt more. The worst death I faced was my youngest sibling. You don't expect to bury the baby. Ah well time passes and we're flooded with pleasant memories.
I have long come to terms with the most profound philosophical truth - we're all going to die.

12. Very moving post, malaise.

I lost my father and younger sister. We're losing a lot of icons who feel like family. Jim Croce was an early one for me; your mention of memories and photos probably triggered that thought... and it's OK. We'll all have a place on the great mandala.
