ACORN is about race.
Idiots at ACORN engage is some really stupid behavior and it suddenly becomes the end of the world with legislation to cut off all funding for them. People would like to see them disbanded and completely vilify them. The entire organization is being painted as a giant pedophile ring and if you defend them you must be one yourself?

Should an organization that molests children, helps set up a system to do it, and instructs people on how to hide it be prohibited in America? Wait, ACORN never did that.

The Catholic Church did. Hmmmmmm?

1. It's not about just race but class too.
How many organizations represent those who have been traditionally disenfranchised.

20. It is about the GOP wanting to win elections and loosing by only a few % points.
Acorn makes the difference. It is about power pure and simple.

2. Not to defend the Catholic Church, but many sects had that problem
And they also got money from our government. I am sure Catholics did too.
Why is our government funding church organizations anyway?

12. I know for a fact that the Catholic schools in my area
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 08:53 AM by MattBaggins
receive at the minimum, their lunches from the local public school system. They also make use of the busing system and sports fields and equipment.

I actually have no problem with this at all but if acorn should have all money for real projects that help change peoples lives, taken away for stupidly telling people how to lie about child rape, then an organization that actually raped them should also lose all money.

4. I'd pretty much agree with that analysis
In fairness the two situations aren't parallel on many levels, but certainly the decision to take out Acorn has everything to do with Race and the tangential connection to President Obama.

6. Is there anything known about the two who went "undercover"?
The small bits of video I have seen looks like they were dressed for Halloween. I also heard that Acorn tossed their asses out of many of their sites. So, who are these two?

11. I thought the fake pimp looked riduculous
I am surprised he didnt get laughed out of every ACORN office he tried that shit in. He looked like some sheltered white racist kid's approximation of what he thinks a pimp looks like.

16. I read a post on DU yesterday that said
the young man behind it was trained by Morton Blackwell's Leadership Institute or that Hannah Giles is the daughter of Town Hall founder, Doug Giles.

26. One is the daughter of a Townhall.com (conservative website) writer,
with a background in the pro-life movement: Doug Giles & daughter Hannah

The other is a graduate of the conservative training org, The Leadership Institute (if i've got the name right), whose activities while with that org included setting up 22 conservative campus newspapers.

In short, there's connections & money behind them. They're not just two naifs.

But an org. that is the voice of poor people is getting vilified? This picture is whacked.

22. So you, like the RW, want to attack a group that has helped the poor because of what some did in it?
It was wrong with ACORN and it is wrong with the catholic church.

And then - if you are an American you are even worse because bush got us into a war and lots of innocent folks died and all you did was yell about it and march in protests (and the US govt covered up many of the abuses and war crimes).

Guilt by association is not really different than stereotyping imho.

And by the logic frequently displayed here, the Catholic Church, and no organization connected to it, from Catholic Charities to any hospital, should not receive dime one of Federal funds, at any remove....
