3. She didn't commit the violence, the lab tech that allegedly killed her did. Heard |
|
on M$NBC a few moments ago. The lab tech has been arrested but the motive has not been made public yet.

5. I think he's repeating the morning news |

who reported that was what the president of Yale is calling it...or the police chief (can't recall). On CBS morning news, Jack Ford and Harry Smith explained that it was a way to allay fears in the Yale/New Haven community that it was random, domestic or serial violence.
Yeah, my fears are all allayed now...thanks!

2. There has to be a motivation |
|
Violence is the result of a motivation.
I think it demeans her death by just saying it is workplace violence.
May she rest in peace.

6. Makes it sound ordinary |
|
Like "workplace violence" is just an expected part of daily life.

7. Why seperate your main comment between the thread headline and the body? |
|
Would it not have been easier for you and kinder to the reader to simply write "Anne Le was killed as a result of workplace violence" in the thread title?
Also, Annie Le was killed as the result of a violent, physical attack upon her body by another human being.

8. I think "Annie Le was killed in an act of workplace violence" would make more sense |
|
Saying someone was killed "as a result of" something makes it sound like the killing was an act of retribution for some violent act she committed.
It's just poor writing.

9. I would argue the exact opposite is poor writing. |
|
Anne Le was murdered. She died as the result of her injuries sustained in an attack by another human being. Are you offering that whenever you read the phrase "as a result of" in regard to a murder that it makes the death sound like it was an act of retribution for some previous violent act perpetrated by the dead person?
My friend died of injuries sustained as the result of a drunk driver crashing his car into her car. Does this sentence make you think that my friend died in act of retribution by the drunk driver for some previous, violent attack by my friend?

10. Your comparison is apples to oranges |

If you said "My friend was killed as a result of drunk driving", it would be a reasonably good parallel.
While it is empirically true that (an unspecified person) driving drunk led to the death of your friend, that phrasing is unclear because it makes it sound like your friend was driving drunk and got killed as a result. (Or it could be misinterpreted to mean that, if you prefer.)
