BUSTED: Joe Wilson member of racist Confederate organization

http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/19957

Rep. Joe Wilson member of Confederate group?
from crooksandliars

Joe also has been a member of the Columbia World Affairs Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Sinclair Lodge 154, Jamil Temple, Woodmen of the World, Sons of Confederate Veterans, ....

This is an organization that, as the SPLC has detailed assiduously, has been taken over in the past decade by radical neo-Confederates who favor secession and defend slavery as a benign institution. Leading the takeover is a radical racist who's been an important legal figure on the far right for some years.
...

Now, add this to the fact that Joe Wilson, as a state legislator, was one of only seven Republicans to go against their own party and vote to keep the Dixie Rebel flag flying over the South Carolina capitol:
...

A clearer picture of why this congressman might so virulently breach protocol and loudly interrupt an African-American president's speech to Congress by calling him a liar does start to emerge, doesn't it?

So inquiring minds want to know:

Is Joe Wilson still a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans?
If so, does he condone the activities of the "Lunatic" faction that now controls the SCV?
Does Joe Wilson consider the Republican Party "the Party of Lincoln"?
Does Joe Wilson support secession?

3. "we" don't allow anyone in Congress, citizens elect people to Congress.
Whether it's Joe Wilson or Cynthia McKinney.

If the people of SC want to elect Joe Wilson or if the people of Illinois want to elect Louis Farrakhan, we don't get to tell them who to send to Congress.

5. You're Right
We don't get to tell them who to send to Congress, but at least we know that the people of the district that Louis Farrakhan lives in are smarter then the ones who live in Addison Wilson's district in South Carolina.

7. That was my reply when people were having to ask IF his outburst was racist.
Oh golly gee, you mean just because he's a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and voted to keep the Confederate flag flying over the South Carolina capitol? :sarcasm:

I learned that tidbit within 24 hours of his outburst and thought it was a key point in subsequent discussion about the outburst.

The further TV news chat discussions about WHETHER there was racism in the many other right wing attacks on Democratic President Obama were really depressing. The news chat people could have shown photos of 50 or more racist posters and clips of racist comments and discussed why and how the sentiments were stirred up for political ends by the GOP and the right wing PR firms their supporters employed, and what we could do about it.

Instead, hearing people discuss WHETHER OR NOT there was racism in a lot of the town hall storming and tea bagging, was really disappointing. They should have started with the clear evidence of racism and asked GOP leaders what they were doing to solve that problem. They should have been discussing just how GOP leaders going along with the "birther" fake controversy stimulates racist attitudes.

But since our major broadcast media have been conglomerated into right wing hands, with a few token liberal shows to demonstrate that they are "balanced," we got a discussion of IF the racist slogans and posters existed, rather than WHY they do and HOW those attitudes can be turned around.

8. That organiztion is big in Virginia.
Especially in Richmond. I've been doing an informal survey of Confederate monuments and there are a lot of them. There are the big ones, like Monument Avenue and Stone Mountain in Georgia, but almost every single county courthouse in the South has a confederate battle monument. Many of these monuments were constructed in the 1910's and 20's This includes counties who predominantly supported the Union. Another revelation, Confederate churches? Virginia has three of them, Lee Chapel at Washington & Lee University promenintly displays the Confederate flag. An old Confederate Veterans church in Richmond does as well and Blanford Church in Petersburg is a Confederate Memorial.

12. Many of these monuments were constructed in the 1910s and 20s --
just coincidentally, a time when the KKK had FIVE MILLION members.

Nothing racist about it at all.

Confederate veneration IS racism.

9. again, if you read my post from the southern poverty law center
it looks like it is slowly being infiltrated by radical racists and has some infighting going on amongst more moderate members of the group. someone should send the SPLC report to Rachel and have her do some research.

11. Correct.
It used to be a fine civic organization, but has been infiltrated of late with racist nuts who install like-minded creeps to push their anti-American agenda.
