Boehner and Cantor ‘wary of the possible damage inflicted on the party’s reputation’ by Bachmann.

Over the course of the past year, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has encouraged conservatives to “slit” their “wrists” to oppose health care reform, called AmeriCorps a “re-education camp” and called for McCarthy-like investigations into whether members of Congress are pro-America or anti-America. Politico reports that House Republican leaders are worried that Bachmann’s overboard rhetoric could hurt the reputation of their entire caucus:

Long before the tea parties or Wilson’s outburst, Boehner and Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) had struggled to moderate the rhetorical excesses of House conservatives hammering away on Obama’s birth certificate, decrying the creation of “death panels” and ferreting out signs of creeping socialism.

Sources say they have been especially wary of the possible damage inflicted on the party’s reputation by bomb-throwing Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who last fall called for an investigation into whether members of Congress are “pro-America or anti-America.”

Bachmann has previously said that she’s been “labeled a kook” throughout her entire political career. Apparently, House Republicans are concerned that she’ll make that label stick to them as well.

1. I seriously don't think she'll win back her seat in 2010.
She's such an embarrassment to my wonderful state.

4. I don't live in her district - but El Tinklenberg would have won her seat -
he had the endorsement of the Independence Party too - but at the last minute a fellow jumped onto the ballot as the Independence party candidate carrying just enough vote to carry Bachmann to a narrow victory. She narrowly won a second term. While her district leans conservative, they're good, decent people - they're not like her.

7. Well, I guess I can't blame them for that, but
....aren't they also worried about the possible damage inflicted on the party’s reputation by Boner and Cantor??

Boner paints himself orange and bursts into tears on the House floor. Cantor plays around on Twitter during a Presidential address to a joint session. They really should be embarrassed of their whole fucking party.

Hell, I'll openly admit I'm embarrassed that Max Bluecross and K*nt Co-op call themselves "Democrats".

Bachmann talk, republicans cheer them. I can't see Boehner and Cantor worrying about Bachmann any more than they worry about Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, Savage, Coulter, Hannity, Malkin and those fundamentalist "Christian" preachers. The base loves it.

26. I think that is what will happen. With the GOP abetting the black and white
world the wingnuts and freepers and birthers and religious nuts want, what else are people supposed to believe but that the crazy base of the gop, that 30%, have control over the party. Democrats will win elections from here on in. There is no way that centrists are going to vote for nutjobs and liars and crazies like Sarah Palin but the base will insist on people like that being candidates. The GOP just sits there and says nothing. Don't they have any policy?
