IF it's Racist, Call it Racist.
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 03:36 PM by G_j
after reading numerous and thoughtful viewpoints on the issue of using the R-word, I agree that, we MUST use that word, whenever it is the TRUTH. It is important right NOW, while the racists feel they are being vindicated, by the media in particular, to call them out!

Rove, Limbaugh, Beck..etc, KNOW that if you repeat something over and over, true or not, you convince people.
Well, the racism is real, and we don't have to lie, but only to tell the truth.

Don't back down! In particular, I've been interested to read various opinion pieces on Carter's comments. and I've observed the way the media has tried to bully Jimmy Carter, or anyone else that dares say it.
We can't succumb to any more of their bullying.

(& Thank you, Jimmy Carter and many others!)

on edit: reading responses: IMO the word "bigot" is also a fair call, if we weren't afraid to use it.
And it's hard to prove something that nobody but a white supremacist admits to.
Ask the GOP, NONE of them are racists!

1. Do you need a smoking gun to make the charge stick?
Who will charging Rush Limbaugh with Racism convince?

8. if only we did spend as much time charging Limbaugh with racism
as we do charging ordinary white working class people with racism at the drop of a hat. Heck, even the last time somebody posted an article about Limbaugh, they couldn't charge Limbaugh with racism without saying "Limbaugh is like so many other white people in this country who can't handle the thought of a black man being elected President."

Which is a perfect example of how we shoot ourselves in the foot. We should be attacking Limbaugh instead of the masses of voters that he is lying to, but we need to attack Limbaugh without making lots of other people collateral damage.

2. It's obvious why they don't get the "judged by the content of their character" concept....

3. I think the issue is using it when there's no real proof of racism.
...or when opposition has other, more plausible, roots.

Are some teabaggers racist? Sure.

...but I believe their opposition as a group attempts to address government spending and what they see as "communism", not the race of the man living in the White House.

5. It's especially funny watching us white folks traipse across this huge battlefield of real racism...
ignoring it ALL, and then finding a little cracker-pebble, and getting all outraged.

6. "whenever it is the truth" is the question
Whether we will shout 'you racist' when we think somebody might be a racist or whether we should have clear proof. The second thing is doing it wholesale. How many racist signs in a crowd prove that the whole crowd is racist?

Why should one attack by a racist jerk in Georgia prove that there's a ton of racism in this country while an attack on a bus apparently doesn't prove anything about the passengers who thought it was funny?

7. I am thinking in the nature of Carter's comments,
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 03:09 PM by G_j
which I completely support. He pointed out the obvious undercurrent.
They try to play the "proof" game, a game they will never play themselves.

10. If it's Bigotry and Intolerance call it that. Constantly calling Racism is counter productive.

15. Bigotry works,
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 03:18 PM by G_j
and perhaps doesn't have the same baggage as racism, but I think 'intolerant' just isn't strong enough to describe today's RW.

11. The GOP has gotten away with their sexist, racist, homophic attacks . . .
for decades -- !!!

Certainly, Carter was attacked and swiftboated in every way by the GOP when he

was president --

Including, Ollie North and Secord having been in charge of Carter's hostage rescue

missions -- !!!
