New TIME Cover on Glenn Beck Ignores Facts, and Worse

I have no quarrel with TIME magazine devoting a cover to Glenn Beck -- so long as the accompanying story sticks to hard facts and harsh truths. The issue coming tomorrow, online today, sadly fails to do so in an apparent effort to woo the rightwing with a ludicrously "balanced" treatment of equally dangerous and wacko "ranting" coming from left and right.

It starts right away with a first paragraph that claims that only "liberal sources" estimated the protest crowd in D.C. last weekend as about 70,000, while conservatives say up to a million or more. Actually, virtually all mainstream media sources, along with nonpartisan factchecking organizations such as PolitiFact, cite the lower number.

1. it IS "cute" how they try to portray left and right as similarly wrong and

dangerous to civil society: of course, EMIT magazine relies on Hofstadter's '62 work, as though Kennedy had never been assassinated, the CIA's filth had never come to light, or political theory hasn't changed since the keen-o nifty I Like Ike and Johnny K era; c'mon, was TIME under a rock when Iran-Contra broke? (yes, yes they were)
if the Snowes and Baucuses were shunted aside and replaced by Luxembourgists, Marxists, Sheehans, etc., their policies would be more correct than the centrists'
I mean, saying that a President is bad because he throws people into secret jails where they're raped is just as wacko as saying that a President is an illegitimate Kenyan Muslim Nazi Commie
soon they'll lump anyone mentioning that Gore won Florida with the Birthers, because both deny a President their legitimacy (like that Doonesbury stinker some Sundays ago conflating Truthers, Grassy Knollers, and Deathers)
just like George Washington and George Lincoln Rockwell are morally identical because they said the current government was illegitimate...
