"True Compass". First thing I did was to look at all of the photos (there's lots of them.) Reading had to be delayed due to the tears in my eyes.

59. Gulp...
I'd love to have one of those, but I can't afford $1,000. for a book.

Frank Schaeffer isn't saying anything that those of us who live in the south didn't already know. I'm surrounded by the hypocritical, crazy freaks. Newspapers are evil...have to go to talk to the preacher or mention something in Bible Study class. The religiously insane is how I refer to them, and I'm NOT kidding.

63. Mike had Rev. Philpot on saying the same thing.
Earlier this week the Rev. Philpot said that there is nothing even remotely "Christian" about the RW religious-right in this country. The faith has been bastardized beyond recognition.

65. At age 18 (around 40 yrs. ago), which was the age of majority at the time in
GA, I, while expecting to be thrown out of the house, informed my parents that I was no longer going to attend the little southern baptist church that I'd been forced to attend, unless it was for a wedding or a funeral. I mentioned the hypocrites, who were deacons and did worse than I while telling us all we'd burn in hell. There was a dust up, but I wasn't thrown out of the house.

I have a bumper sticker on my back window that states, 'The Christian Right in Neither' and another one under it that states 'Focus on You're Own Darned Family. Dem friends have been amazed that the window hasn't been busted out.

I spent two years of my Army career in GA and have visited an Army buddy in TN. But then again much the same can be heard right here in NYC. The South has no monopoly on crazy.

Ft. Gordon, Ft. Stewart and Ft. Benning all in the 60's. JFK was shot when I was in Gordon and the Selma march was when I was in Benning. Interesting times to be sure.

I was a preschooler when JFK was murdered, and I remember my Mom was on the phone a lot saying, "I don't know what the world is coming to when someone would shoot the President." I lived in a tiny town in GA, and everything shut down. I remember the funeral procession, and seeing JFK, Jr. saluting, and my Mom crying when he did. I don't know if my now former republican mother voted for him or not, but she was in tears for a couple of days.

I remember seeing footage of events during the Civil Rights movement on my teevee and asking a lot of questions and not comprehending the racist responses that I received. Those images burned something in me that what I was seeing as a young girl was just wrong!

If you get back this way to visit your buddies and need a place to sleep, we'll make a place for you. :patriot:

43. Yep. As clear-cut a decision as I ever made.
Just realized that I was throwing up every morning for no reason other than that I couldn't handle the volume of service calls. Never happened before in 40 years of working. Working day & night. No time for Mr. pig or kitties. At a business meeting over the weekend & hands were shaking & voice stuttering. That's not me.

Simply gathered up my stuff and left.

I'm not tied up in knots all the time.

Interestingly, I spoke with someone in one of the company offices, and she said that they were told not to tell Mommy and Daddy that I'd left (family business).(I worked for one of the sons)

57. Something similar happened to me when I had my last office gig.
I was miserable - I would wish for the bus to crash or train to derail so I wouldn't have to go in - until I had my "Lester Burnham" moment and hauled ass out of there. After that, I bounced around from job to job until I found my current pet sitting gig. I've never been happier.

64. Hi tnlefty - thanks for the PG!
Yeah, I thought I was Superwoman and could handle anything. Work-Son has had problems hanging onto employees & I thought I was impervious. But he loves to sack people & dumped stuff onto my plate. I thought I had the wherewithal to deal, but I couldn't and it was affecting Mr. pig and (horrors!) the kitties! I'd come home & fall asleep in my recliner. Never interacted with anything. Still never made headway on the project.

Yesterday, I just said "this isn't working", packed up my stuff and left. I'm so surprised I didn't hesitate or try to discuss. But I knew I had to make a clean getaway. I immediately noticed the weight lifted from my brain.

Won't pay the bills, but I'm feeling better now!:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

67. Roughly 9 yrs. ago, when the Mr. went from working on a line
crew and had a pager only when he was on call, he was given a cell phone and told that it was to be on 24/7, 365. As an area manager, who is supposed to be on rotation, he receives calls even when he's not the supervisor on call.

He set his ringtone to Jimmy Buffett's 'Margaraville" and I now hate that song....Point being that employers think that they 'own' a person all of the time.

I hope that you all will be okay. Here's another :toast:

58. Hi ralps & Crook!
I guess it's a good thing. I just suddenly realized in a nanosecond that I couldn't deal with the crap being thrown on my plate, and that it was making me physically ill and nasty to Mr. pig. Clear as a bell. No hesitation. Just "I don't think this is working out the way we'd both like", packed up my stuff and left.

Never done anything like this in my life. But never thrown up in the a.m. before staggering to work, either.

Since I left I've felt 100% better. Serene. What's that tell ya?
