|
Arnold is saying 40% unemployment, sad state of affairs.
Another topic I'll have to research I guess.

8. I heard about the water issue..it has been 40 years brewing. |
|
the other issue about 'minnows' is that those minnows become food fish that you find on your plate. It really (if this is the issue that Ianity is exploiting) is a rock and hard place, the farmers have to have the water that normally runs to the gulf of California is also the breeding /spawning area for the fish. If you let the farmers have all the water, which is what they want, no food fish and the entire ecosystem of the Gulf dies. If you let the water through then the fishermen get to work and the farmers dry up.. On one hand the fish and the ecosystem were there first, on the other we want iceberg lettuce..
I personally don't care too much about the lettuce since it is zero nutrition, and don't care to spend money on imported food that has no nutrient value, but don't really want to see folks unemployed either.
We have been buying more local food, growing some and buying from farmers nearby to keep our local economy going here in rural NC, which has been losing out and losing jobs for years. That includes the local textiles that were dependent on locally grown cotton, the textile factory jobs went to Mexico and Russia and China. Tobacco was also a large part of our economy too, and that is going away too.
Detroit has been losing jobs for decades. Whose jobs are more important? When is the ecology important?

He's in Cali where water has been shut off to farmers over a minnow, and the fields have returned to desert, with the population of a few small towns now out of work.
Ahnold the governator is on hand and is being interviewed now.

5. Yeah, what was up with this 'big surprise' topic tonight? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 09:29 PM by Emit
I try to catch just a little of what he's up to and today, I just caught the last minute and he said he'd be down in CA with the farmers. I figured it had something to do with immigration (?) but then he said something to the effect, "They have no water and we want government to control health care?" -- as if to imply that it is all the governments fault.
What was the spin? No cable here so can't catch Faux, thank goodness!

7. He is saying water was cut off to the valley because of smelt minnow |
|
And the valley is starving.
Evidently the delta has to have so much water for this smelt, and there's been low rainfall.
A fisherman assn guy was on saying the smelt are crucial to NW fishermen.
