Palin Snubs Base

Where's Sarah Palin?
— By Stephanie Mencimer | Fri September 18, 2009

Thousands of conservative activists are back in DC again this weekend for the Family Research Council's annual Values Voters Summit, an event that in the past has served as an early test ground for aspiring GOP presidential candidates. True to form this year, many of the GOP luminaries are on the lineup: Indiana Rep. Mike Pence, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Conspicuously absent from the list, though, is former VP candiate Sarah Palin.

Palin was invited, and her absence is no doubt a huge disappointment to many of the attendees. According to the Washington Times this morning, she skipped the event because her son Track is coming back from Iraq this weekend. Of course, his return won't prevent Palin from jetting off to Hong Kong in a few days for a big paid speaking gig to a group of Chinese investors (which will be closed to the media, incidentally.)

Palin's dissing of the conservative activists seems odd. These are her people, after all. Does this mean she's not going to run for president? I doubt it. More likely Palin realizes that, unlike people like Pence and Pawlenty, the Values Voters already know her. She can afford to take them for granted. Right now, apparently, she's more desperate for Chinese money than the straw-poll votes of a couple hundred die-hards.

7. She has not been seen in Alaska, at least,
for several weeks. Speculation is running rampant. Most people are assuming she's had some "work" done and it's taking time to heal. That seems as likely as any other speculation, given that prior to this long absence she was popping up everywhere.

15. Makes sense. If Sarah looked like Golda Meir the FReeps wouldn't give two cents for her opinion
The only reason Sarah took off the way she initially did was becase of her looks.

There were definitely more capable and intelligent women in the Republican leadership that could have been chosen as VP but McCain and the powers that be decided to go for the "appeal to the horny old men and MILF voters" approach.

As Palin's looks go so does her appeal to the Republican party. Totally shallow thinking but she has no hope of winning an election based on her thinking or policies.

6. well the investors there that invited her are known for inviting outlandish
speakers whom they don't take seriously, so in that sense it is.

Actually its a brilliant way to raise the profile of your group if you have the money.

17. It's interesting that Meghan Stapleton
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 01:04 PM by Blue_In_AK
used the words "first major paid speaking engagement" when describing the Hong Kong appearance. Wouldn't it have been more "image enhancing" if she had said something like "her first appearance on the global stage" or something like that? As I've said many, many times, with Sarah it's all about the Benjamins.

Gryphen at The Immoral Minority posts on this here: http://alaskatoaustralia.wordpress.com/ third post down "Sarah Palin to miss yet another high profile conservative gathering."

She quit for the money and she intends to make that money. Meghan was 100% correct. Np pay no play. :D

Thanks for that link. She knows she's not going anywhere politically and intends to cash in before her already extended 15 minutes of fame crashes and burns.
