I Must Say That I Have Been Very Impressed with Senator Jay Rockefeller in the Past Few Days
on healthcare reform. But then the so-called "Rockefeller Republicans" were moderate or liberal on domestic and social policies and many supported the New Deal back in the day so it does follow he(though a Democrat) would be for the public option.

So here's to Senators Rockefeller and Kerry! Keep fighting and let's win one for Teddy...

3. And Batting Fourth, Vice President Joe Biden!
most agree he's going to lean pretty hard on some of his former colleagues. I'd actually like to see a Joey B. arm-twisting session...

10. I saw a show where he had Lindsey Graham practically panting like a puppy
and eating out of his hand. He's established relationships much like Kennedy (and others of their era) did -- disagreeing on issues but still maintaining civility and respect.

14. Of course a peasant trying to be a Republican would pant in the presence
of a noble Rockefeller. That is not surprising. Wish I had seen that. I bet it was amusing.

15. I was talking about Biden -- but I bet a Rockefeller WOULD induce panting
in Republicans. He's everything they want to be -- unbelievably wealthy and powerful to boot!

2. I've been impressed by him ever since I saw him dissing George HW Bush --
it had something to do with poverty, and saying that Bush rode by the poor people while the chauffeur was driving him to school. And then he said -- the majority of people in our country don't grow up and have the advantages of a Bush or a Rockefeller...

There's something about the rich ones (and Kennedy comes to mind) that they aren't afraid to stand for what's right -- it's not as though they need their salary, whereas other elected people always have an eye on re-election -- job security.

5. Exactly...I remember Kerry saying when he got out of school that he believed EVERYONE should have
the same opportunity that he had.... then we have.... the Bush boys - who take the power elitist attitude that education opportunities should be made more difficult for those without the connections they had all their lives.

9. Yeah, after I posted that I realized i should have clarified DEMS. The Bush
family is the exact opposite -- always wanting more and feeling entitled instead of appreciative.

4. Wow
You people are so deluded that you think the grandson of one of the richest men in history, scion of bankers just like the guys who are looting and pillaging our economy to dust, champion of retroactive immunity for telecoms and torturers alike, suddenly became a "man of the people".

Wake the hell up. This healthcare bill is good for one kind of person only - the kind that runs big companies and donates generously to political campaigns.

Will you still be cheering when his "Cybersecurity Act of 2009", in the hands of the next GOP regime, shuts down DU?

I guess we will never know, will we... on a censored Internet, no one can hear you scream at the keyboard.

7. I Believe I Said on Healthcare Reform and Nothing Else in My OP
I am well aware of the Senator's failure on other issues but I will applaud anyone who tries to help with healthcare reform. I tend to look at individual issues as just that, individual issues...

11. You have to ask: why would he do it?
Rockefeller is an elitist himself; he was born and bred into it; he bought his Senate seat virtually outright with his family's money.

His record over the years since has been consistent, voting for the interests of other elites over the interests of you and me.

So one must ask, did he completely change his spots overnight, or is there something about this bill that is really good for the elites, at your expense?

I read the bill. He has NOT changed his spots. They don't bury the meat inside a thousand pages of legalese because they want you to understand what is going on.

12. I agree- He's well spoken, deeply knowledgeable, and not afraid to speak truth to power
He was brilliant on Charlie Rose yesterday- I kept thinking he should have been at the original table of the gang of six, not that corporate compromised weasel Baucus. His knowledge on health care, intelligence, persuasive powers and charisma would have come up with a much better bill. Now we can only hope his amendments are embraced.
