Bob Schieffer calls Bush, Cheney and Gates liars on Face the Nation
he starts his comment by quoting the line from A Few Good Men "you can't handle the truth" which seems to be, he says, what this administration believes, so they lie to us like when they say: "stuff happens" "mission accomplished" "the good news is just not being reported" "enormous success". Then he told the story of the he botched report on "how our troops are dying" (the 4 troops) "the journalists who had pieced together the right story, were told their version was innacurate" and says Gates claims he was unaware of the new information as late as an hour before the true story got out. (Clearly, Bob does NOT believe Gates.)

He concludes by saying this administration says "public criticism hurts the war effort, but it is being damanged much more by its own loss of credibility.... Truth is the foundation of democracy. Americans can handle the truth. They demand it. History shows when they fail to get it, they fail to follow their leaders no matter the cause. They are more likely to just change leaders."

Bob gets it right sometimes and can be pretty forceful.

3. I saw Gwen Ifill steaming on Washington Week
about that Friday news dump stategy revealed by the Libby trial, she says that whenever
news happens, we will report it here at PBS. They are steaming over this manipulation
by this current administration. I don't think they will be dealing with lapdogs anymore,
more like pit bulls.

Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 10:24 PM by tblue37
what a great cook Gwen is and Gwen and Condi go over to each other's houses for din din.

Bleah.

Gwen has been carrying water for this misadministration all along.

Right now some of the lapdog reporters are pretending to be upset at evidence that they have been used by BushCo. They aren't upset at having been used. They are whores who were all too glad to be used and then invited to all the best dinner parties.

What they are upset about is that the public is being told, so now they have to put on a show of being upset.

What a load of bull caca.

just don't post as much, I wrote my senator Barbara Mikulsi, 2 weeks ago about this
ongoing Iraq and Grand War on Terror, thingee. I am hoping they will start to put
brakes on you know who, and I am keenly following the Libby trial.

Did you know that 13 times during the State of Union address, Joe Lieberman was the
only Democrat applauding Bush, I heard it on Faux news this morning.

23. Gwen Loves Condi
and vice verce...

..... AMY GOODMAN: You also write about Gwen Ifill and Condoleezza Rice.

ERIC BOEHLERT: Right, they are good friends. Condoleezza Rice said at a function, talked about how they'd had dinner together, and Gwen Ifill was such a great cook, and this was right at the time when Condoleezza Rice was in -- got in trouble for not being up to speed, not reading an entire N.I.E. report. This was the whole Joe Wilson, aluminum tubes from Africa, and her explanation at the time was, ‘well, I didn't read the whole report,’ but within weeks she had told Gwen Ifill two completely different explanations. But Gwen Ifill didn't ask her the obvious follow-up question: ‘Did you read the report or did you not?’ And again, the fact that they're buddies and have a close social friendship, maybe it explains it. I don't know what else explains the sort of timidity that we've seen.

http://members.aol.com/gopbias/boehlert.html

This makes Gwen a bigger GOP M$M whore than most.

27. I respect her a lot
I have a friend who has seen her on the talk show cycle, the nastiness that she has to
tolerate from the right wing nutjobs is immense, so maybe she did not follow up on one
line of questioning, that doesn't make her a bad reporter, she has put up with a lot
of crap with grace and dignity.

29. I think the house of cards is falling now
the Libby trial will expose the control of the media by the White House, I think that's
the only thing that will change the current system, it's the augean stables, the government
has made the press into a propaganda arm, this is wrong, we are seeing this from the outside.

stupid you'd have to be not to have seen this before.

Where were the media? How were they not seeing what we've been seeing here for so long?

Geez, I took the Friday news dump to be such a matter of public knowledge... I never thought twice about it. And anyone in the media is surprised?

33. well, they probably thought it was a coincidence
which those crazy bloggers said was a conspiracy, but it turns out we were right, we
were right about many things:

the rigged election of 2000
9-11, pre-analytical and post-analytical
manipulation of reporters either by favored treatment, leaked info, etc.
the march to war in Iraq
the rigged election of 2004
the swiftboaters
the rigged recount of 2004
the Plame incident and the cover-up
Katrina

and there's probably a hundred or so other things that we were right about.

Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 05:18 PM by MissWaverly
we should have pushed back hard, what were they going to do as a follow-up to that, that
told us right there we were headed for troubled waters, if we had demanded that Congress intervene by ringing the phone off the wall in Congressional offices and faxing and marching
and writing anyone with power that this intervention was outside the constitution and asked them to act, we would be a lot better off right now.

They aren't surprised, they are simply exposed as being complicit in the PR machinations of the White House spin machine. This faux surprise is for the average person who is not aware of how corrupt M$M has been.
