I believe today was the final episode of "The Guiding Light"
I remember watching "The Guiding Light" with my grandmother when she kept me as a young boy.

Who can forget

Roger Thorpe
Ed Hughes
Philip Spaulding
Nolaerobics
etc.?

I believe it was on the air for 70 straight years.

1. Started on radio 1937:
"Light" was created by soap matriarch Irna Phillips (who also masterminded "As the World Turns" and "Days of Our Lives," now NBC's lone daytime drama). It debuted on NBC radio in 1937 as a 15-minute serial, then came to CBS television on June 30, 1952.

So 72.

4. Yeah kind of sad
my grandmother and mother watched. My mother was big on the soaps, I would watch with her when I was home from school.

7. I remember "Nolaerobics"
I know Michelle Bauer's original name and the identity of her birth mother.
I remember when Reva was married to and pregnant by Josh's daddy H.B. Lewis.
"Little Billy" Lewis was a baby when I first tuned in in 1983.

I've followed the story for 26 years. Today I said goodbye to 20 or so of my oldest friends. Its stupid and unimportant and trivial and silly and I'll miss them.

You're close. It ran on radio/tv combined for 72 years. Damn, what a record.

9. Well, he was until he cheated on his wife Maureen with Nurse Lillian Raines.....
Maureen was my very favorite character and they killed her off just after she found out about the affair.
