McCain: Obama Decision on Missile Shield ‘Seriously Misguided’
Even before President Barack Obama announced he was shelving a Bush administration plan to build a missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic, Republican backers of the program were expressing their dissatisfaction – and none more vehemently than Obama’s 2008 presidential opponent, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

In a statement issued Thursday morning, McCain said the decision calls into question the U.S.’s commitment to securing the two NATO allies and may undermine American leadership in Eastern Europe.

“Given the serious and growing threats posed by Iran’s missile and nuclear programs, now is the time when we should look to strengthen our defenses, and those of our allies,” McCain said. “Missile defense in Europe has been a key component of this approach. I believe the decision to abandon it unilaterally is seriously misguided.”

**********************************
I'm sure McCain is concerned that the Soviet Union, The Persian Empire, The Ottomans and The Austro-Hungarian Empire are now free to form an alliance and start a war to end all wars.

4. Bear Baiting = Big Money
The rushpublicans live in a world of boogiemen. For most of this decade, it's been the A-rab boogieman...be it Iraqi an now Iranian. Fear means building huge weapon systems that are both extremely expensive and, in the end, a waste of time. While Iran is the current "threat", the rushpublicans would love nothing more than to ignite the Cold War with the massive amounts of spending. Nothing would fit the bill than a resurgent Russia...why negotiate with them, that isn't profitable for General Dynamics and GE and Rayethon and many corporations that send millions to Gramps and other rushpublicans.

Of course the ruhspublicans are gonna poutrage over "making the country weak" totally ignoring all the damage they did to us diplomatically for the past 8 years.

As others here have said...Gramps...STFU....you and your war mongering party are irrelevant.

Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 08:25 AM by johnaries
IT DOESN'T WORK! Please tell me, honored Senator, how you plan to protect us from nuclear threat with a system that doesn't even work? The only way that got it to "work" was because they pre-programmed the "enemy" test missle on a precis trajectory that they already knew and controlled tightly.

Instead, Obama is replacing it with a system that actually works, to the relief of the Pentagon. Republicans talk about safety and make us less safe. Obama actually does something and makes us more safe.

11. Right. The fact that Russia de-escalated in response is just wrong.
I still can't see why McCain lost with logic like that.

15. If Iran didn't have so many missiles pointed at it, maybe it would not be
working so hard at building its own missiles to point back. DUH!

I know Peace isn't as profitable as war, but it does have it good points. Better survivability being one.
