2. I think the Republican objections are window dressing-- |

If they can convince us that they think the Baucus plan is too liberal, then maybe we'll settle for it, thinking we're getting a good deal.

4. Baucus trots out a Health-care Industry profit protection plan and... |
|
Republicans oppose it.
I smell blood in the water. Republicans know there is going to be a bill. They know they can not stop it. So they set themselves up as opposing it and run against it. This is what they did with the Clinton Health Care plan and it worked. But Obama isn't Clinton and this is not 1994.

6. The Dancing Boner...Always A Laugh A Minute |
|
He isn't relevant except as a useful tool. The dude's dumber than a box of rocks and so corrupt it reeks from him. The ultimate "used car salesman" (appologies to real, hard working pre-owned salespeople) who does his party more harm than good. He's the tail wagging the wingnut dog...a puppet to the hate radio crowd who he fears more than he embraces. His job is to throw bombs and red meat...and try to frame it in the most archane manner.
The scare of "government takeover" was the old talking point. Problem with old talking points is they can and do get debunked...they have a limited shelf-life. Boner still hasn't gotten the memo this dog ran run the course...and is just running on reflex. That's all the GOOP hae left anyway...they've all but made themselves irrelevant in this debate except on the teevee.

8. I'd have thought the insurance companies would have yanked the (R)s back in line by now. |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 09:45 AM by DCKit
They're not going to see a bigger corporate give-away than this one. It's a dream bill for the insurers. Maybe the Republic leadership is simply playing coy while, secretly, declaring the win.
Does it matter? If this horrible bill passes along party lines and the poor and middle class get hammered by the cost, the Republicans can claim they opposed it, and their numbers go up. But that won't happen. It's poison for all the Corporacrats in Congress, no chance of passing.
We may as well shoot for Medicare 4 All, and lay the blame on the (R)s and (D)-Corporates when that fails, then try again in 2011 with a larger (D)-The People contingent in both houses.
On Edit: After posting, and reading the posts written while I was writing, it seems we're all on the same page with only slightly differing opinions.

9. They shouldn't have been a part of the conversation |
|
from the start. WE have the majorities, WE have the White House. How much consideration did we get when the shoe was on the other foot? It's time to stop playing nice and do what needs to be done. I'm afraid they've waited too long. Something needs to be in place now, otherwise I'm afraid we're going to lose the majorities we worked so hard to gain. 2010 is right around the corner...get it done NOW so the people can see that it will work and we can pick up bigger majorities, maybe even replace the blue dogs with REAL democrats.

10. And his solution is...? |
|
Oh, that's right. The Republicans don't have a solution. They only know how to say no and obstruct.
The health care debate, like all other issues before Congress, boils down to a battle of ideas. If they don't want to be part of the solution, then it is obvious that they are part of the problem. I hope they lose more seats under Boehner's so-called "leadership" in 2010. It would serve them right.

12. Republicans are big on Globalism.. free trade..NAFTA... |
|
Repukes will be the first to tell you that we need to overhaul healthcare to make America competitive... so that we can make Americans work for 50 cents a day like in China.
But then, they oppose any change to health care? Do these people even have their brains turned on? Are they capable of any thought that isn't spoon fed to them by Rush or Glenn Beck?
