Someday a Voice of Sanity will come out of the Republican/Regressive side |
|
Not sure if it will happen this decade or not though....Anyone have any bets on when such a thing might occur?

2. The Day It Does, The Party Dies... |
|
The extremists not only are loud but spoiled...they're in the drivers seat of this dying party and they don't care if they're going off the cliff...they have "the power" and that trumps all. This is a party that no longer has any ideas or credibility regarding economics or defense...just talking points. All that's left that holds the party together is hatred...all the failures of the booosh era have driven this party hard right...beyond both national electability and reason.
Recently I heard someone compare this party with the Perrotistas...loud and obnoxious and then they faded from relevance and the political scene. Surely any "moderate" (meaning anyone with Sanity) runs the risk of the hate radio and faux noise machine...the centers of the party's current power. That power puts money in their pockets and they're loath to give that up. The "moderates" either have been driven out of the party or into total submission. Regularly I hear "rumors" that there are those in the party who are uncomfortable with the goofy things they do, but they dare not even speak their name, yet speak up.
The moment someone tries to assert some sort of authority and shut down the goofies, they risk splitting the party wide apart. Right now the national party knows these are the last refuge for any power they may have and can't alienate them in fear of them going to the Libertarian or another third party.

Why should the GOP start making sense? It hasn't since Eisenhower, and Nixon fluctuated between paranoia and true vision....

7. And it'll be promptly shouted down. |

Seriously, though - Yes, at some future date, those "reasonable conservatives" who are looking for an alternative to ConservaDems will look around at the wreckage of the "old" Republican party, pick up a hammer and some nails, and start building something useful with whatever they can salvage.
I don't think it'll be before the next Presidential election, but it might be at least started by the one after that.
