My Rabbi called out Joe Wilson @ Rosh Hashana services this morning

Said there us no place for rudeness, a lack of civility and respect in civic discourse. He also condemned tea baggers for hateful and divisive rhetoric. Also told us that Fred Phelps and his band of psychos will be in NY next week to picket synagogues and remind I'd that god not only hates fags, but hates Jews too and encouraged us to come out to counter protest and let them know we won't tolerate hate directed at anyone. I'm glad he addressed this issue.

In fact my temple in Colorado Springs had a female rabbi, cantor and congregation president all at the same time. We were evidently the first in the whole country to have the trifecta.

9. Your Rabbi is a wise one

and he knows that silence in the face of hate is taken for agreement.

You don't have to be unpleasant enough to incite violence. Just a quiet, "you're completely wrong about___" should do it. All you have to do is remind them they don't make the rules for any of us.

As for Phelps, if there are gay congregants, enlist their help. When that bunch of haters came to this town, a couple of guys went into a soul kiss right in front of the old fraud. He and his followers couldn't leave fast enough! The one thing haters can't stand is love.

The guys involved were interviewed by the local paper, said they barely knew each other but it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Sometimes I love this town.
