1. Mixed Breed Enthusiasts
Okay, all of you folks that were extolling the virtures of mixed breed dogs, and saying they should keep being produced, a few days ago---here's the heartbreaking reality. Tons of dogs asking, I am a Good Dog....why am I here? Same for the cats.

Makes my stomach churn.

14. There are purebred dogs and mixed breeds at shelters.
What matters isn't the breed, or lack of breed, but which humans have been responsible, or not responsible, for them.

8. Actually, they're not asking you to adopt the dogs. They are asking people to help relocate them

to a shelter in Seattle.

BTW...you are wonderful to adopt the pups that you have!

5. I wonder how many of these dogs were first imported from Mexico?
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 04:02 PM by pnwmom
It's hard to know how big a problem we actually have -- how well our spay/neuter programs are working -- when we're rescuing dogs from other countries who are helping to fill our shelters.

http://www.cwob.org/rescue.html

Since 2001, Compassion Without Borders, has been coordinating an international rescue from Mexico to Northern California. To date, we have saved the lives of hundreds of dogs. The rescue is a collaborative effort between Compassion without Borders and our partner organizations.

The rescue began from the Refugio Fransicano, a large no-kill shelter in Mexico City that houses approximately 2,000 animals. Since then, we have expended the effort to include dogs from animal control centers in Juarez, Mexico - where Compassion without Borders is currently working on citywide humane reform.

We select friendly, adoptable dogs from these locations and hen bring them back to California for a temporary quarantine at Animal Place, a local sanctuary, before they are adopted out into safe, loving, permanent homes via various rescue organizations and local shelters.

7. Interesting question. It seems many of the dogs are chihuahuas,
although there is a variance in their ages.

But then, why would they place them with a kill shelter if they rescued them?

11. Maybe they were about to be killed in Mexico, so they moved them
to CA to give them another chance.

I noticed that there were an unusual number of Chihuahuas, too. Here in Seattle, there is a preponderance of unwanted pit bulls, and very few dogs under the age of one year. (Litters of unwanted puppies are rare.) Hopefully they'll succeed in getting the Bakersfield dogs up here.

13. It's hard to believe they haven't adopted out some of those dogs in Bakersfield except for the
fact that the economy is so bad. Chihiuahuas tend to be so popular. There is also a beautiful Pom and baby kitties.
I'm going to check Twitter and see if there's any word about them.

16. Why not?
Why don't they want people to adopt them?

What if someone wanted to--would the Bfld shelter tell them no?

(Note--I'm not asking for myself; I have a dog who won't tolerate other dogs right now. It just seems odd that you seem adamant that no one can adopt these animals)
