umm...OK so who lets criminally insane killers go to the county fair on a field trip? |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-20-09 12:16 AM by ddeclue
who is running Spokane WA law enforcement? Commissioner Gordon?
Yes in Washington state they apparently let the Penguin out of the mental hospital to go to the county fair...
:eyes:
They let 31 criminally insane patients in the mental hospital go to the county fair - one escaped, a killer who was found not guilty by reason of mental defect.
Does this sound like a good person to let ride the ferris wheel with the general public?

3. That's why I am against "not guilty by reason of insanity" verdicts. |

You know what's gonna happen-the patient is placed into a hospital, some years down the road the hospital is going to decide the patient is all well and good, take the patient on field trips, etc. Now, what's this guy gonna do after his medications wear off? I am afraid we will find out soon enough.

Wow the empathy and thoughtfulness on this thread is amazing, almost Republican.
The prisons are full of the mentally ill, even those not violent are still a lot more likely to run afoul of the law because they cannot act or think reasonably in tough situations. Some states don't even have a public mental hospital to put them in, and those that do seriously underfund them. As a result very few insanity defenses are attempted and fewer still succeed.
Of those that do succeed, most make it because the person is no threat to others. The classic case (and there are unfortunately many)is where a woman in a fit of religious extremism and depression kills her children (usually trying to kill herself as well). The crime is terrible and usually the insanity defense doesn't even work, but the woman is no threat to others even if released.
Taking such a large group to such an uncontrolled situation, is certainly a lapse in judgment for many reasons, but the vision of a mass of "Freddy Krugers" randomly killing in a state fair horror film is not among them (though perhaps allowing that picture to be painted is)

10. WA is so lax- they let people go who have 20 dui charges |
|
this guy has escaped before from a field trip. He attacked a guard that time. He also gets day passes. He cut the throat of an older lady that was gardening ans set her on fire because he she was a witch. The "doctors" there and I use the term loosely have been wanting to release him. They think he's cured. Sort of like the ones at prisons that want to let child molesters go cuz they have been such good prisoners. His stated reason for wanting out is to return to the very small town where commited the crime and have a farm. I don't even want to get into the rationale for taking the criminally insane to places like fairs.

Gordon is doing the best he can with the situation he is in with a city that is literally populated with mentally unstable individuals.
