The Republican Health Care Reform Plan |
|
Can anyone give me any information about the Republican health care reform plan that Lindsay Graham and John Boehner were talking about on Meet the Press? Also can anyone either give me some information about the pros and cons of letting people buy health insurance across state line or tell me the pros and cons of buying health insurance across state lines? I am not saying that I support these plans I just want to know what they are about and examine their affect on the country.

2. Every state has their own Insurance Commissioner.. |
|
and insurance companies operate under the guidelines of those individual states. If they competed across state lines, then they would be subject to the laws of Interstate Commerce. They would be regulated by the Federal Government. The Republicans have stated this as part of their plan.
Very little of their "plan" would have any impact on the price of health insurance.

3. Many states have little or no competition and one or two companies dominate the entire market |
|
I frankly don't understand why this is the case. I am guessing that it is just too price prohibitive to have 50 different policies that comply with regulations in 50 different states. I guess it would be like if every state had their own emission standards for automobiles.
I do think that having FEDERAL regulations of insurance makes sense and that those regulations should have a lot of teeth to them , LIKE no rescission, no prior conditions, etc.etc. so I can say I agree with one thing the Republicans promote - it is just something that should have happened years ago. It seems as though more plans would make for more competition in pricing. Of course, so would a public option that the insurance companies had to compete with if it were available to ALL Americans.

4. Privatize Medicare and Social Security. End of life costs are so high. |

Driving people into bankruptcy and denying them low cost medical care will get them to die sooner and save us tons of money from those bothersome later years.
That's Republican compassion for you.
