Obama sticks to his guns on CIA torture probe (YIPPPEEEEEE!!!)

Saying that “no one is above the law,” President Barack Obama is defending Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to launch an investigation into CIA torture practices under the Bush administration.

“I have said consistently that I want to look forward and not backward when it comes to some of the problems that occurred under the previous administration, or when it came to interrogations,” Obama told CBS’s Bob Schieffer. “I don’t want witch hunts taking place. I’ve also said though that the Attorney General has a job to uphold the law.”

2. The rope-a-dope kid strikes again
He TRIED to stop Holder, didn't he? He TRIED to advocate against witch hunts of the previous administration, didn't he? Well, he fought the law and the law won--what else can he do? Abuse his power by blocking the investigation? That would be like, impeachable...

5. Yep.
A lot of political commentators don't understand the strategy involved in consensus-building in order to re-organize communities on any scale, local or globally.

First, you let everyone have their say, and as President, you listen carefully, giving at least the appearance of honoring each view-point respectively.

Next, you let the different factions fight it out among themselves until a legally and socially defensible position emerges as victorious, which you, as the highest executive, can then throw your full weight behind.

7. when has ANYone operating at a high level ever been brought to account
Edited on Sun Sep-20-09 04:41 PM by Gabi Hayes
in similar probes? any sanctions will be meted out to the CIA equivalents of Lindy English

hope this is different, but I doubt it will be, and I also doubt if any substantial, positive change results

but, then, I've always been an optimist

10. As I've been saying from the beginning. It was Holders job to do this and he DID!
And as slow-moving as this process is going to be, there are going to me some historical prosecutions in the end.
