What a great day!
Went to see my niece and her fiance at the hospital yesterday, took their 6 month old daughter too, and it was AWESOME. Daughter was a little apprehensive at first but when daddy started talking to her she took right to him. It had been a month since he had seen her and he said it was the best medicine he could get. One of the nurses came in to change out his I.V. and asked who he had visiting and he said "This is our aunt and uncle, and this is our daughter Kloee". His mind is sharp and his memory of everything except the night before and day of the accident is excellent. He was joking around, giving me a hard time, and singing along to his favorite songs.

His mom went to the hospital today and found out she has no more say over anything concerning him or his care. Niece said his mom was civil well but left very soon after being told she isn't the one in charge anymore. His mom and dad had a fund raiser yesterday and from what others of his family have said mom intends to keep the money herself. He told her he wants every penny to be given to my niece for bills and for their daughter and all she would say is we'll see where it goes. From what his sister who went to see him today said they raised over a grand. His sis gave my niece a hundred dollars out of her own pocket and told her she is sorry for the way she has been treated by his mom.

We have opened a trust fund at a local bank for them, if anyone wants details just let me know, and are trying to get the word out. Every dime we take in will be used to cover their bills and provide for all of them.

I am just so thrilled he his doing so well. His doctors are amazed at how much progress he is making. I think seeing his daughter will make him that much more determined to recover. Oh and his boss called the hospital yesterday while we were there and said he was going to keep paying 100% of his health insurance premiums, out of his own pocket if necessary, and even if it's a year before he can come back to work he will have a job.

Thanks to everyone here who has offered their advice and well wishes. Things are definitely looking better!

4. Thanks.
He has a long road ahead. I think he and his daughter may be learning to walk around the same time.

3. Thank you.
Doubt mom is going to do the right thing unless she has no other choice. She has done the wrong thing at every turn through this whole thing.

6. Sorry to hear that.
I am new at posting here, so am not familiar with the whole story. But you and yours will make it without her.

I just had to respond to your great post. Your headline caught my eye, because I a great day, too. :-)

Take care.

7. He was in a bad car accident a month ago yesterday.
Bear in mind he is 33 and he and my niece have lived together for almost 2 years. His mom tried to have him taken off life support 4 days after the accident while he was in a medically induced coma. She has tried to keep my niece from finding out anything, tried to have her kicked out of the hospital, stated that she doesn't claim their baby as her grand-daughter, lied to the hospital staff and several other people including me. It has been just about as bad as it can be.

8. Sounds like you're through the worst,
and that you have been a much better "Mother" figure than this woman will ever understand.

It's people like you who keep hope alive in this world.

Wishing you many more "great days." :-)

LOL.

11. How about we just say I try to live by my tag line.
Be the kind of friend you want to have yourself. The world would be a much better place if more did that. We really do appreciate the care, concern, support and encouragement of everyone. I have found this to be a valuable place to come for advice and encouragement throughout this entire ordeal.

5. One more thing.
One of the songs he was singing yesterday is by Brad Paisley, it's called "I thought I loved You Then". It is basically a song about looking back over the years and seeing how much love grows over the years. My wife, our niece and I sat there and cried while he sang.
