Glenn Beck loses his sponsor Humor

You can now add Darenn Tipple’s name to the growing list of sponsors who have dropped the doltish FoxNews show host. Tipple had been Beck’s AA (Alcoholics’ Anonymous) sponsor for the past two years; a feat many thought was impossible considering that in 14 years, none of Beck’s previous sponsors had lasted more than six months. Tipple’s feat did not go unnoticed though, as he was presented with the Medal of Mettle at an AA banquet yesterday. The medal is the highest honor given by the organization, and is only given to those who have shown unbelievable courage to stay sober in the face of insurmountable obstacles.

An emotional Beck at a recent AA meeting.
In an interview with Recovering Drunkard magazine, Tipple claimed that Beck “was impossible to get along with,” and “he felt himself getting dumber the more he got to know Beck.” He went on to say that, “Glenn always insisted that people call him GB,” and “there wasn’t a meeting that Glenn didn’t cry at, sometimes I’d find him all teary eyed before the dang meeting even started.” The experience of sponsoring Beck became so draining that Tipple was even assigned an additional sponsor just to help him hang on to his sobriety. When asked how he felt after telling Beck the news, Tipple jokingly said, “I feel like doing some serious celebrating and getting super sh*t faced, but I’m not.”

Beck has gone through so many sponsors that AA organizers fear they might have run out of sponsors for him. In fact, AA organizers have been in deliberations for much of the week trying to decide on a solution to the sponsor shortage situation. A few fellow AA members suggested organizers consider allowing Beck to attend AA meetings only if he also attended AA2 (Assholes Anonymous) meetings. Some AA organizers have contemplated allowing Beck to become AA’s first self-sponsored member, but that wouldn’t solve the greater problem – the counter effect of Beck’s attendance at AA meetings. Which has caused an alarming number of former Beck sponsors and fellow AA meeting attendees to relapse. One member said, “I get hammered before the meeting if I know Glenn is going to be there, just to get through all his whining.”

The proposal favored by most of the AA organizers and members is to ban him from AA altogether. A few disagree and say that despite his incessant sobbing, having Glenn at meetings actually makes them feel better about their lives. Beck has not issued a statement on all of this, but is said to be actively pursuing a new sponsor.

1. this is a joke, right? not funny either way
as much as I hate Beck, talking about his recovery just isn't funny and certainly not for public consumption.

14. Fuck him, he's fair game
Live by the sword, perish by it.

I think he's still hitting the booze and coke.

3. Wow that changes my view of beck by qutie a bit
We are probably dealing with a dry drunk

Wow...

Now you are right, he should have never broken confidentiality, but it does change my view of what we are dealing with. Deepens the psycology as it were.

6. This certainly is a joke, no sane person would be his AA sponsor
He's the type that would drive someone to drink. No wonder Glenn is so full of hate, he probably blames Liberals and Obama for his past drinking problem, crazy as he is.

11. That's not enough -
just putting the word there could also indicate that the situation described in the piece is "humorous."

I'd prefer a more complete description - as I've already posted, we have some seriously humor-impaired people here. Read the responses, and you'll see what I mean...........................

10. This is a hoax...........
It's cute, but it's mean in a way that I, no fan of Glenn Beck, don't especially like.

While I have my thoughts about AA, the simple fact is that a lot of people depend on it, and one of the truly great things about it - in my opinion - is the anonymity.

This purports to shoot that vital aspect of it to hell.

There are far too many people who are going to read this and think it's on the level. One response already cites Beck as a "dry drunk," and claims now to see him differently. A complete miss, that one is.

It's kind of sad, but I wish the OP contained a line stating that it's a parody. Otherwise - and I really, really hope I'm wrong about this - it's going to get circulated as fact, and we of the far left persuasion are going to be behaving as stupidly as the rightwingnuts we're so fond of mocking.................................

12. I showed this to someone who's in AA, who thought it was hilarious, laughing outright.
He grasped its nature immediately, of course.

Thanks, rbrnmw.
