The stages of Grief or Dear "conservatives": Fix your party.
Edited on Mon Sep-21-09 11:34 AM by YOY
It's been an interesting few months.

All summer has been the simmering douchebaggery of the astroturf movement to make any action taken by Democrats to be communistic, socialistic, fascistic, islamic anti-Americanism. Any an all confrontation or ability to discuss things has been met by screaming dopes who invade the public discourse and shout concepts that are not only non-sequitar but not even remotely related to reality. Angry so-called conservatives have taken every bumper sticker jingo idea put out against Bush over the previous (and easily forgotten by the Republican's themselves) and changed the name 'Bush' into 'Obama' as if this is truly some little quid pro quo children's game where your job is not to point out actual faults but to insult, demonize, and demoralize the opposition without any demonstrative fact.

A few of the more staunch folks at work have started sending "Democrats are stupid" emails. No reason. No justification. Just insults.

It's not even a rebuttal of ideas with alternative proposals...it's just blind and idiotic resistance. There is occasionally a denial of any actual problems. It's just non-stop attack.

I think I know why.

Look. The Republican party is broken. It's really broken. It's broken like we were broken in the 1980s (at least morally). The Bush Administration was the last straw. It encompassed the Neo Conservative push that just proved that they are not onto something but off of the rails and no matter how they fight it, it just doesn't work. The push further to the right by the craziest of the lot is not helping. The entire party is going through some serious grief and there are stages to this.

For folks who may have not been paying attention here's how those stages have worked and still are working.

Denial - That was the 2008 Presidential Election and partially the people who still think Sarah Palin would have been a great head of state. Seriously. Sarah Palin as a "good candidate"??? McCain once upon a time sure...but Sarah Palin as one day president??? The woman is an idiot. She actually had the McCain's folks looking at her and blaming her for the fail... The provincial folksy bullshit is not the future of the party. There still are some folks in Denial but mostly folks have moved past in in realization that YOU LOST AN ELECTION. Most folks seem to be well past the denial stage. Glad for you.

Anger - What we are seeing now. Tea baggers in pirate costumes pretending they will revolt. Um yeah. Sure. Revolution of 50-80 year old white grouches, 40-year-old-virgins, and the 4chan kids. That will last long. Keep telling yourself that the military would side with you. LAst I checked there were a butt load of minorities in the armed forces. Hispanic and Black folks. Armed to the teeth. Coming to the aid of a bunch of militia nuts who go balistic...We're all laughing somewhere. None-the-less can you put the ridiculous anger in the happy box and move on? It's gotta happen sooner or later: you're going to calm down.

Bargaining - Some folks have moved past the Anger. They now are looking for any way possible to regain control. Things like...well...talking ad nauseum about the president's birth certificate.

Depression - It's coming. Prepare to feel like we did in 1982 to 1992.

Acceptance - You will have to figure out some solutions. You will either move to the right or form a new party that is sanely to the right. That Iraq and Afghanistan were and are beyond horrible wastes of money. You will have to admit the Bush fucked up. That you fucked up. That trickle down does not work. That Ronald Reagan wasn't the saint that the spin masters made him to be.

Republicans, I hope you get to acceptance. I hope you get to the point where you realize that Democratic presidents like Clinton and Obama have been doing your job for you. We really don't need to do your job for you. Because of this there really is no left wing in power. Honestly, the left in the US doesn't have a legitimate political voice. Are you happy? You shouldn't be. What you've been calling 'left' since Reagan is really center of right. And you clearly do not understand what 'left' is.

Mad props to Kübler-Ross.
