Jon Stewart backstage at the Emmy
"Well, I was hoping that wouldn't be case. I think it's due to the elevation of the rhetoric in comedy. We've slowly become more sophisticated." - Jon Stewart's deadpan response to a question about comedy and politics becoming synonymous

3. that is a clever answer
And to me, also says that while he thinks comedy is becoming more sophisticated and elevating its rhetoric, the implication is that politics is doing the opposite.

5. You've decoded the secret message
Okay, it wasn't a secret message and it wasn't in code, but good for you.

6. Many people, even two or three here on the D.U., might require the explanation.
It took the RW nearly four years to understand that Stephen Colbert isn't one of their own and Jon's been accused, more than once, of being too damn smart.

In this case, Stewart's being far too subtle for most people - kind of makes it a double joke with extra points for "getting it" without having to think about it for more than half a minute.

7. Sadly, there are STILL people who believe Colbert is a rightwinger
I wish for the sake of humanity that I were joking, but several studies have shown this to be true.
