Remember the guy in St Louis who claimed he was beaten up by "union thugs"?
The Mystery of Kenneth Gladney
By David Weigel 9/21/09 12:04 PM

In a rote column about “liberals stifling dissent,” The Washington Examiner’s Michael Barone argues that “the two most violent incidents at this summer’s town hall meetings came when a union thug beat up a 65-year-old black conservative in Missouri and when a liberal protester bit off part of a man’s finger in California.” The “black conservative” is Kenneth Gladney, who claimed to have been assaulted by members of the Service Employees International Union at a health care town hall in St. Louis.

Curiously, however, there is no record of charges being filed against Gladney’s alleged attackers. And Gladney’s Website is down, with this message replacing the content.

Unfortunately, this site is no longer available due to nonpayment on the part of Kenneth’s attorney, David Brown. The site will resume normal operation once payment is received.

2. He has no job
He also claimed to have no insurance but it turns out he was covered by his wife's policy. Of course that little factoid came out AFTER his lawyer had collected several thousand dollars in donations to pay for his medical expenses.

I predict a bit of legal trouble in Gladney's future. Like maybe fraud charges.

3. I bet this fucking lawyer was working for a percentage
At least that's what he probably promised Kenneth Gladney, in order to use him, his name, his allegation... And when conservative money to promote the story never materialized David Brown, aka the fucking lawyer, just cut and ran.

Hey why should he really help anyone if there's nothing in it for him.

7. I found that curious, as well
Most folks when they get a beating go to the cops and file a report. Let the criminal justice system take over and track down the perpetrators. Mr. Gladney ran off to an attorney and the local Fox affiliate to tell his story. I wonder if he's any relation to Azalea Cooley?

10. Another of example of see the liberals are violent..
I watched this incident and he is lying from watching the clip it seem as if he pretended to be hit and tried to fall on the ground. I saw him the next day smiling on fox and couldn't seem to even get his story straight he just wanted to attack SEIU.

Today,I happened to be flicking past the fox channel and beck was on with his chalkboard and from what I saw some of his targets were SEIU,ACORN, and Soros there was some more stuff but I happened to be on the channel as they were going to commercial. These people will manufacture scandals throughout Pres Obama's terms in office.

11. That video is no proof he was attacked
He just jumps up and down and runs over to talk to the cops when they pull up. It also clearly shows the SEIU guy on the ground, so he has a better assault case than Gladney does.

15. Good grief
He began feeling weird to be one of few black people at the rallies. "At every event I sold at, I had someone white ask me, 'Wow, what are you doing here?'

13. a couple people were arrested according to this story
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/laworder/story/%3C/b%3Ehttp://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/nation/story/5420430FDF2036F08625760B00136BBC?OpenDocument

"-- Two men were arrested for misdemeanor assault for allegedly punching, pushing and holding a man who was handing out American flags and fliers outside the school."

But Gladney is 38, according to this story

"Kenneth Gladney, 38, a conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with "Don't tread on me" printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room at St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was awaiting treatment for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack."

16. They arrested an SEIU guy and a reporter
I've been following the story since the night it happened. It's pretty bizarre. From the link grok posted:

Gladney went on to become a featured member of the Tea Party Express delegation, speaking at rallies across the country. He was identified as "American Patriot and SEIU Beating Victim."

<skip>

King says he toiled for Brown as a swag-seller, and worked on several occasions with Gladney. "Kenneth is not a conservative and not an activist," says King. "He's a little naive, he's quiet, and he's not that politically astute. That's why you saw David doing most of the speaking for him early on."

14. He had his fifteen minutes in the spotlight, but when the light
shines on these wingnuts, they don't look too good. However, he played his part in creating the impression that liberals are violent. In the Rightwing hand-book, written by Morton Blackwell, that's all that is required of the 'troops. To get media attention even if you have to skirt the law to do it!

Despite what was learned about him later, the impression in the minds of the Fox audience will remain. And that's what it's all about.

If we had a real media, these stories would be pursued and debunked so that the debunking gets as much attention as the lies get. But we don't. So, sad as it is, many people on the right, and some who just watch, are left with the impression they were meant to be left with.
