List of ways you can be involved in politics and government, without voting.
Edited on Mon Sep-21-09 09:19 PM by Jkid
The last presidential election proved to me one thing. Even if you elect someone that best represents you even if they do not fit your political ideology, it may change nothing. And he or see may be just another politician.

Suggest ideas of what can you do to be involved in government.

Without voting.

3. A variety of things
Keep in mind you're just one person though.

But you can donate money to organizations that support your agenda. You can possibly get involved in activism (community organizing, union organizing, etc). You can run for local office. You can write letters to the editor. Correct misinformation in informal conversations. Volunteer for politicians and movements you support.

I once read that for every 100 phone calls that are made to remind people to vote, about 4-5 result in the person being called actually going out to vote when they wouldn't have before. However another 4-5 people who are in the households of the 100 calls you make will also vote due to a spillover effect. So even though its not a big difference, making 100 calls in 2 days can lead to 9-10 more votes. I know you're asking for stuff outside of voting, but it shows that minor things do make a difference.
