I worked very very hard the last couple of weeks
to help secure an apartment for a family who had declared bankruptcy in August 2009.

Long story short....they have declared bankruptcy REPEATEDLY over the years. They LIED to me about how many times they have declared bankruptcy (I thought it was only once).

I'm mad as hell....and I'm not going to help these people any longer. Because they lied. They're probably going to end up living in their car, b/c no one will rent to them with their history.

I feel sorry for their kids.

The parents are lying *ssholes, with a capital "*".

1. UGH.
That sucks, dude. I would feel sorry for the kids, too. The parents are reaping what they've sown, but the kids don't deserve it.

2. Why have they declared bankruptcy so often? Medical bills?
Maybe they lied to you because they're embarassed and tired of being judged. Could be they're deadbeats; could be they're working poor with bad health and/or bad financial skills (which most people who grow up poor aren't taught).

6. Yeah, I kind of thought I didn't use 'et al' properly......
but I can think of "other names" I could call these people....

I'm so angry (and disappointed) ....

14. Define Deadbeat for me

Do any of them have jobs? If not, why? And, ask them if they'd be willing to share their contact info with others willing to help/verify your interpretation of their story.

15. Two Chapter 13 bankruptcys in 6 years
The first bankruptcy could have been a Chapter 7. But you can't take a Chapter 7 if you've had a bankruptcy in the past.....so, even though I don't have any proof.....there could have been a bankruptcy before the first one in the early 2000's. They might be habitual with declaring bankruptcy.

If you want to "help them out", PM me and I'll ask if I can put ya'll in touch. Contact them at your own risk.

As for me, I need a shower to risne the stank off.....me thinks.

19. I thought you could only file for bankruptcy once in ten years?

3. A search of public records would have helped you. Simple questions like what cities have you lived
in etc ... the records are on line in most counties.

9. There are people "out there" ....*me* for one
who would be willing to help someone who was upfront with the whole unmitigated truth. Shit happens. You can't go back, but one can admit to the truth and 'go forward'. That is respectable. Lying, hoping you won't be discovered (which is what these people do/did)....there is nothing 'respectable' in that.

I won't EVER entertain a liar, not EVER.

Especially for the kids.

10. Not my problem.
I did everything I could to help them. They lied to me. People (who were more probing than *I*) found them out for their lies.

I wish them well. I can't help them any more than I have (and I REALLY went to bat for them ~ not realizing what lying liars they were).

17. Well, if lying meant you should be out on the street, every person in the world
would be out on the street. It's a very human quality.

11. Well, if their parents continually lie, especially about major bankruptcy, is it a good home?
If the parents get into trouble again and then get kicked out, the kids will be on the street.

Then the state government and local authorities must get involved.

18. My main issue is if these parents are able to provide for their kids.
If they cannot, then it becomes the public's problem, and I honestly do not know the character of these parents except what the OP says, and assuming for one instant that the OP's observation is correct, the kids' livelihoods is a big issue.

12. Oh poor you
for a couple of weeks you helped someone ... waaaa, waaaaa.

Maybe they lied because they've learned no one will help them if they tell the truth???

13. I would have helped them with a different, more PRODUCTIVE
approach....had they been upfront/truthful from the beginning.

Instead, they wasted their time (and mine).

There are LOTS Of ways one can tackle a problem.

NOBODY has any sympathy for a liar.

-----------------

Maybe they lied because they've learned no one will help them if they tell the truth???

Do you think they EVER TRIED to see if someone would help them if they told the truth? I'd bet not.

Truth is far from their skin.....getting what they want is all they want. Truth, beauty, justice has nothing to do with the way they think. They want what they want.
