What is wrong with this statement from a "Value" Voters speaker?
At the Values Voters Summit, the annual conference for the religious right sponsored by the Family Research Council last weekend, conservative youth activist Jason Mattera evoked the battle of David against Goliath as a metaphor for conservative college students who are “persecuted” by the big bad liberals who control academia. “David has the righteous answer,” Mattera said, “because he is taking pride in his Christian beliefs.”

I haven't been to church in over 30 years. However since I had to go until I left for college, I managed to absorb quite a bit on information. It is actually quite useful now.

I can figuratively beat most RW twits over the head with their own supposed religious beliefs. The have no idea what is in the Bible.

They think the Golden Rule says "Do unto others before they can do unto you."

1. What's wrong is
THE STUPID!!!!
Religious opinion or propaganda does not equal empirical evidence, facts or knowledge. 'Duncified' hacks will not receive good grades.

3. That too.
In addition, David is in the Old Testament. Maybe they think he could time travel and visit the future and become a Christian.

I hate to break this to them. It would overload their teeny minds.

7. I have never been able to figure out why they call themselves Christians.
Their theology is antithetical to everything Christ stood for. As I said, because I was churched so well, I can go after them with chapters and verses.

I'll bet everyone of them is in a pew on Sunday. The karma train is going to have some loads on it.

2. David's Christian beliefs, eh.
They know the Bible - even though they quote it ad nauseam - as well as they understand the Constitution or are in touch with their humanity.

6. Reminds me of the bit on "All in the Family"
where Archie and Mike Stivic are discussing whether names are Jewish or not, and when Mike points out that Archie's parents names are Old Testament, he gets Archie thundering back, "David and Sarah, two names straight from the Bible, which ain't got nuttin' to do with the Jews!"
