Nurse arrested on the job sues police
Edited on Tue Sep-22-09 09:03 AM by Hassin Bin Sober

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=7025469
September 21, 2009 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A nurse is suing the Chicago Police Department after her arrest at Illinois Masonic Hospital.
Lisa Hofstra was handcuffed when she did not give a DUI suspect a blood test.
Hofstra claims she told the arresting officer that the suspect would have to be a hospital patient first.

...

Hofstra says she explained that it's hospital protocol to first register a person as a patient before conducting a medical procedure. That's when Hofstra says the officer became argumentative with both her and her supervisor. At one point, he had to be removed from the nurses station by security but he came back.
"He snucked up behind me grabbed my arms

Another Victim of contempt of cop.

Unless pigs are held PERSONALLY responsible for these bullshit arrests, they'll keep throwing cuffs on people at will. The pig should be brought up on federal civil rights charges and lose his personal wealth in civil court.

5. The article I found, IMO, is very interesting on the comments from the nurse.
She said the video shows the offfice outside the car where she was cuffed standing there smiling.

And...she was running triage at this time and there were persons in the ER with bad injuries.

What this cop did mega sucks ~~ even for a cop.

16. My son drove ambulance after his service in the Navy...
...and one day when he and the crew were on a break, he got a call from his dispatcher that his grandmother, my mother, was having difficulty breathing. Since they were on a break, the company he worked for OK'd it that he and the crew went immediately to her residence for a wellness check. My mother lived in one of those gated communities in the SoCal desert and there was a guard at the gate. The guard told my son and the crew ~~ while they are at the gate in an ambulance and requesting entry to check on someone ~~ that the resident had not alerted the gate that an ambulance was due to her residence.

Well, my son said, "Fuck you..." to the guard and opened the gate with the mechanism that all emergency vehicles have with a universal code to open gates in an emergency. The dumbass guard called the Sheriff's Dept and tried to have the ambulance crew arrested.

Holy shit...if anyone thinks real cops are a pain in the ass, rent-a-cops make them look brilliant. The end result was that the HOA had the dumb ass guard fired because of his poor judgment.

BTW: My son and his crew gave his grandmother a breathing treatment and took her vitals, talked to her MD and after his shift, my son return and used the remote in his car to open the gate, picked up his grandmother and took her to her doctor. All ended well.

20. You have to remember the qualifications to be a security guard
:sarcasm:

  • Grade 6 education
  • simplistic, rule-based thinking
  • authoritarian mindset
  • ability to sleep on your feet

    :sarcasm:

    My ex-wife works as one.

    23. Wow, that's incredible.
I suppose the silver lining to the story is that the deputies responding were smarter than the rent-a-cop, and your son wasn't arrested. Small comfort, though.

    28. So the Security guard was fired for actually trying to do his job
of verifying that the ambulance and crew where legit!

    29. Don't you think he might have let the ambulance through...
And called the cops for backup? Couldn't he do identity verification while the paramedics were working on the person in need? It's not like he's guarding a bank vault, just a gated community.

Unless, of course, securing property trumps human lives.

    14. I'm really puzzled as to why the hospital isn't backing her up
I suppose I can see why they aren't involved in the suit but why no comment from them? It's their employee and they're just hanging her out to dry? How is it that the hospital has nothing to say about one of their employees being falsely arrested while on duty on their premesis and basically held hostage until the demands of the police were met? This endangered the care of ER patients and they not only don't back her up they don't have any comment at all. WTF??? And while it may have been the one officer who made the arrest, there were a whole bunch of other ones that were involved.

    This is wack.

    18. Hopefully they are preparing their own case.
Since the police affected their ER and potentially their patients (will all the potential legal issues THAT involves) they have cause too...

    22. They may be backing her up behind the scenes, but
legally unable to comment until the trial, if there even is one (I'd suggest the police dept. settle beforehand, which they may very well do).
