The Real Reason For the Decline of America's Rich
A writer for Slate points out that the Republican talking point that tax laws are causing the rich to disappear is wrong. In the article the author gives information on how some of the information put out by the likes of the Wall Street Journal Editoral page is inaccurate. The author goes on to explain that the way things have actually happened are the opposite of what Republicans claim and what should be the logical conclusions of what Republicans think.

3. Wasn't it Colbert who said
reality has an anti-conservative bias, or words to that effect?

7. the idea that a difference of a measly 6% on the top tax rate is what's keeping us from getting rich
is ridiculous on its face. it helps the already well-off, and them only in a small way relative to their wealth.
i know if my marginal tax rate were lowered by 6% it wouldn't come close to changing my lifestyle.

nevermind that being ideologues about taxes is itself idiocy. optimal tax rates are more of an engineering problem than anything else. to ALWAYS say taxes must be lowered or to ALWAYS say they need to be raised is just plain dumb and of course everyone knows better.

everyone understands that taxes need to be cut when they're too high and the economy needs it, which implies that on some level they also understand that taxes need to be raised when they're too low and the economy can afford it. but no one seems to accept that reality. THAT's financial responsibility, not that the republicans would ever recognize it. they just like the slogan, not the reality of it.
