What's going on with the country right now- an apt (if icky) analogy
...and no, this doesn't really belong in "Pets".

I've got cats. Occasionally they'll come home with all the signs of having been in a fight; tired, mussed fur, maybe limping a bit, but they're victorious..."You should see what the other guy looked like!"
They won their battle (or so I'm given to believe).

A few days later, however, Victorious Warrior doesn't seem to be feeling so great.
Tired, and depending upon which of my clowder it is, either lethargic or grouchy. They start to evince tenderness in some areas...which becomes swelling. This swelling increases, making my Victorious Warrior ever more uncomfortable until it finally BREAKS OPEN. :puke:

Victorious Warrior has an abscess, caused by injuries received in battle.
It's got to drain, it's got to be cleaned out and allowed to heal from the inside out. Healing just over the top with the wound still festering underneath is what caused the abscess in the first place.

They're nasty, smelly, putrid and disgusting...but ignoring them, pretending they aren't there doesn't help the situation; in fact, it can cause Victorious Warrior to become more prone to other, more serious illnesses.

Nasty as they are, the abscess has got to come to the surface, drain, be cleaned out and allowed to heal properly.
Only then will the fever go down and the Victorious Warrior be able to go on with what is REALLY important.
