2. Some people don't find DU until they find it. Some may not find it until today.
The important thing is that they do find it. Someone who finds DU today may have some valuable insights and opinions, they will just have to get past the period when they are accused of being a troll or freeper for speaking, or writing what they think.

I searched under Anti Bush and there you were. I only recently started posting because I was able to find so many valuable news items that I didn't want to take time away from educating myself.

Plus; I'm shy....

12. But seriously,
"Lurking" was one of my hobbies before being laid off.

Now I have plenty of time to post (between interviews at Starbuck's and Applebee's).

Is there some kind of "Freshman Orientation" forum where you can learn what "popcorn," "n/t," "eom," etc mean?

kthxbi.

17. .
Popcorn refers to the  smilie. Which indicates a person thinks that post is going to generate quite a bit of controversy. N/T means no text in the message below. EOM is similar but means end of message. IBTL means in before the lock.

That's all I can think of off the top of head.

8 years is a long time. Hell, a lot more than 8 years, really! Maybe that's a point that should be made, there have ALWAYS been RW idiots.

37. Sometimes it's hard to tell who is a rightie on this board.
I try to stay out of the GD-P forum, which is boarderline right wing IMO.

If you do go over there, put your flame proof suit on first and don't let em get to you!

And yes, it's been longer than 8 years and that's the problem: Nothing has changed. :(

23. I didn't see newbies and everyone had a gazillion comments
I signed up in August but I got the link from Obama campaign website last year. I enjoyed reading the
threads and comments. I couldn't figure out K&R and n/t so I decided to ask. I still would like to ask,
about journals. Do you add all your comments to journals or do you save to journal when writing a thread?

:dilemma:

26. I think it's a bad idea to save all comments to your journal
because they are out of context. Anyone who has you on their buddy list gets your journal updates, and if you are a suspicious newbie, you may be on someone's "buddy list" solely so they can see how long you last before getting tombstoned. So in cases like that, your out-of-context comments may just raise suspicions.

33. Thank you
However, I posted a comment about health care and I said, "If the Dems drop the PO then they better
be talking about Single Payer." And then I get a response, "so if they don't have the bread, let them
eat cake." I wasn't implying that at all. I wasn't feeling well so I didn't explain or ask why they asked
that. I didn't see that as being a suspicious newbie unless I was being challenged to find out.

42. Sorry, you didn't make it to my "buddy list". I checked.
Somehow, you weren't egregious enough to single out as a "buddy". Welcome to DU, and I hope you stay a long time! :hi:

More commonly, DUers put people on "ignore", and they periodically check their Ignore List to see who has been TS'd.

24. I had tried to join years ago, but ...
... was rejected because of my email address, so I just lurked. Then, last year, after any number of posts I read that had me longing to respond, I tried again. To my surprise, I had no trouble signing up, even though I still have the same email address as always.

27. Didn't have time for DU until Sping 2008
We were building a house at the same time I was recovering from knee surgery. I started posting about the time we were moving into the new house.

I think I had another ID that I had signed up with but when I was ready to become active I had lost the password and had changed email accounts so I started a new ID.

34. Lurking since Jan. 2001 but....
...never had/have the nerve to post. Finally joined, but am very hesitant to post
an opinion. Time may help, but waiting 8 years to join, rules out the time excuse.
My low post count leaves me open to suspicion, and I certainly don't blame anyone for
that. I have read some wild 'opinions' on here over the years, mostly from trolls.

38. Another short-timer!
I was referred here by a recent acquaintance who was kind enough to post one of my hobbies in the Religion-Theology forum (or is it Theology-Religion).

I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more serious discussion of the matter, considering the Bush connection, but am glad to see that viewers continue to run up the numbers while we wait for the IRC 107 suit to be filed.

Perhaps that will generate more interest and discussion.
